A Mess

It had been two months snd there was still no change in Brandon's condition. I knew it could have been longer, but I knew Brandon was a fighter and I wanted him to pull through. I practically lived there and only went home when I was forced to or I was really needed at the office. I knew just about all of the staff and I asked so many questions that I could've probably been a doctor.

While sitting there with Derrick I could tell that he had something on his mind. He would come visit as much as he could. Bre had disappeared with Peyton and had not contacted him in weeks. The only reason that he didn't stop her access to money was because she had Peyton. She really wasn't his daughter, but he loves her like she was.

"She changed her number and has blocked me on social media so now I have no way of trying to reach her. I just want to know baby girl is okay." He sighed with his head in his hands.

"I don't understand, but it's going to work out. It has to."

"I filed for divorce, but I don't know where to have papers sent. She's playing games because she thinks I'm going to take her back. I just can't do it, Cam. I love her, but I can't do that to myself again."

"You shouldn't have to. You don't have to stay married to someone who can't be faithful to you. You're a good man and there are plenty of women who would love to have you."

"More than anything I miss my daughter."

"Hire a private investigator to find her. She's smart, but not that smart."

"I did. Even though she still has access to the money, she's not using it. There's no paper trail. It's like she disappeared."

"It's not that many places she could go. She has no family, except her dad and she doesn't talk to him."

"Did your investigator try her dad?"

"I honestly didn't think to check there since they don't get along. I'm going to go call him now."

D came back a few minutes later with Trent behind him. God knows he wasn't Brandon's biggest fan, but he supported me fully. He still didn't understand why I cared because in his mind done is done and there's no going back. He had brought Popeyes so there was enough that he didn't have to directly offer Derrick anything. He knew he messed up by sleeping with Bre and respected that Derrick didn't like him.

I cleared my head of my thoughts and told them, "I'm going to go stretch my legs and grab some drinks. I'll be right back."

As soon as I turned the corner, not paying attention I ran into a hard body.

"Excuse me. I'm sorr-" I was cut off.

"You are sorry." He said backing me into the corner by the vending machine.

"Will, back up." I said putting my hands to his chest to try to put some distance between us, but he wasn't budging.

"Listen because I'm only saying this once," he pointed with face really close to mine. "If my brother dies so do you."

"Don't threaten me, Will."

"What the hell are you going to do? Huh? Call the police?" He laughed pointing to his badge. "Go get your groupies out of my brother's room so I can spend time with him."

"Can you move?" I asked him through clenched teeth.

"What's the magic word?"

"Please. Can you please move?"

As soon as he moved Ashleigh came in looking like she lost a fight with Mac brush. He'd beat her again. I wasn't judging her because we were in the same boat. I was surprised that he let her out of the house looking like that. She taught me so many make up tricks, so it didn't make sense as to why she was looking like Stevie Wonder did her make up.

"Hey. What's going on?" She asked looking from me to Will.

"What I tell you about being in my business?" He eyed her.

"Hi, Ash. I'm getting a drink and then going back to the room."

"Go sit down." He said pointing down the hall at some chairs. "I know you left Brandon, but don't go putting ideas in her head. That's dangerous." He warned and I walked around him.

When I got back to the room I told D that Will was there and he was waiting for his time with his brother. I didn't mention our altercation because it would just start more drama. He'd be there for five minutes and then I wouldn't see him again until next week.

After he made his exit. D stayed for a little while and left. One of the older nurses was teaching me how to knit so that I could keep busy while at the hospital. I was about to doze off when I heard the door open.

"Hey, Mrs. Geraldine." The nurse came in to check on Brandon.

"Hey, Camille." She smiled at me. She was the mother figure that I never had. "How's that project going for you?" She asked checking the fluid levels in the IV bags.

"I'm almost done. Shockingly, it's actually kind of cute." I held up the scarf I was making.

"Ok. Good job, little protege. When I'm done with this I need to speak with you."

"Okay." I said nervous as to what she was going to say.

"Honey," she said sitting next to me, "I know you love him, but sitting up here everyday, all day isn't good for you. Look at you. You look a hot mess. You're hair is not done, you have bags under your eyes and the only time you eat is when one of your friends stop by. They don't always bring food, either."

"I just want to be here when he opens his eyes. I need to be here for him like he was there for me."

"Sweetie, you can't be strong for him if you aren't taking care of yourself. It's Thursday night and I don't want you back here until Sunday night. Enjoy your weekend, go to church on Sunday and come back."

"There isn't anything wrong with me and I can Ustream service on my iPad." I held it up for her to see.

"I'm only telling you this because I've gotten so attached to you. You're like the daughter I never had. Get out of this hospital, live a little bit. Trust me, Brandon will be right here when you get back. He's in good hands, honey."

I bit my lip and shook my head. "Okay. Okay. I'll take a break, but you promise someone will call if there are any changes?"

"You know they will. If I'm working I'll call you myself." She hugged me and I didn't want to let go. "It's going to be alright."

"I know."

Before she walked out she turned around and said, "Let me find out you had your behind in this hospital before Sunday for no reason. It's going to be you and me lil girl. Oh and don't call us, we'll call you," and closed the door.

I walked over to Brandon and kissed his forehead. "Nurse G is kicking me out. I'll be gone for a few days. Promise you wake up without me."
