Ava lay on the couch in her living room, the TV continued to play the documentary it was on as she flinched in her sleep then woke up slowly. "Mm... no thank you" she grumbled when it went onto the description of how baby sharks are the only babies who have their eyes open in the womb.
"Hey kiddo" her mom walked in and sat on the couch with her.
"Yo..." she sat up and moved her brown hair to one side of her face as she stared at the screen.
"Whatcha watchin'?" she asked and handed Ava a cup of coffee.
"Well, from what it looks like, baby sharks actually have their eyes open in the womb. I mean who knows? When that little fella's in there he sees it all. When he pops out he can tell mama shark it all, like, hey... that's not looking so great. Or when he's in there the guy might get a bit curious and start poking around, say hello a bit early or what not" she told her and took a sip of coffee while looking at her mother out of the corner of her eye.
"Well, question, why were you up so late?" she asked her.
"Mm" she said and swallowed the drink before putting it down on the coffee table, "Studying" she winked and folded one leg over the other as she stared at her innocently.
"Again?" she asked her.
Ava's smile dropped as she unfolded her legs and stood up, grabbing the cup of coffee, and walking into the kitchen, "I'm fine" she told her and grabbed the cereal from the cupboard.
"Why didn't you tell me? We can go back to see Dr. Reynolds tomorrow. I'll book an appointment" she told her and started heading towards the phone as Ava slammed the cupboard shut and turned to her mother.
"I don't need to see that shrink again" she glared at her and folded her arms, "They're just nightmares, mom. I know they're not real so can we just move on and get over them" she huffed and started eating the cereal straight from the box.
Her mom placed the phone face down and bit her lip, "Well, I am going to go to work. I will see you after" she smiled and kissed her daughter's cheek.
"I love you!" Ava yelled as her mom blew her a kiss and closed the door behind her after picking up her keys.
Ava checked the time on the clock, "Right" she clicked her tongue before shoving the cereal back in the cupboard and running up the stairs.
She opened the door to her bedroom; her bed was in the corner of the room with multiple pillows that's he doesn't even use and just throws them on the floor before sleeping. She had a desk at the end of her bed which is where she wrote her books and did her homework. She skipped over to her draws and pulled out a grey vest, black socks, black ripped jeans, and a red and black checkered shirt.
She started putting on her clothes, she then walked over to her desk and took off the leather jacket from the back of it. She put it on before heading to her door where multiple pairs of shoes lay scattered across the floor. She settled with the boots and shoved her feet inside them before tying them up.
Ava tightened her long ponytail before slapping her own ass at her reflection in the mirror and opening her bedroom door, walking down the stairs.
She grabbed some money from her jar that she and her mom have for when each of them swore, though they both ignore that rule on countless occasions and just throw in money whenever they please. She took out ten dollars before grabbing her bag and swinging it over her shoulder.
The school bus pulled up to her house just in time as she locked the door behind her and chucked a mint in her mouth and running to the bus.
"Clint. How are you?" she asked the bus driver as he sighed.
