Ava tried to move but her hands were being restrained by rope, she realized she was lying on a bed and her eyes darted to the needle in her arm, taking her blood.
She grunted and tried to break out of the restraints by she couldn't, "Uh, uh, uh. Please don't do that" a deep voice came from behind her as a figure stepped out form the dark.
"What the fuck is going on?" Ava tried to break the restraints once again but failed.
"Well, I used to work with the bastards who did this to our beautiful planet. But when I realized what they were doing I quit, and I have been trying to find a cure for so long" he started and sat on the bed next to her.
"I assume you met my nephew, although he was like you, unfortunately he would've died if we removed any blood. But I don't mind losing you" he smiled and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear.
"Please, let me go" she pleaded.
"Don't you get it? You can save us all, when Edward told me about the girl who was just like him I knew I had to have you. Now it's time to test" he grabbed the small vile of blood and started mixing it with other liquids.
He took out a syringe and filled her blood with it, "Now Barry here is bit, he's offered to test if your blood works" he motioned to another bed across the room where a man, probably in his mid-thirties, lay on the bed.
He grabbed the Barry's arm and injected the needle into it, they waited for a reaction as Barry exhaled and closed his eyes.
"Oh my god..." Ava muttered under her breath when Barry's face started to light up again.
Edward's uncle laugh giddily as he went to go check Barry's pulse, "It's getting stronger" he smiled as Ava stared in shock.
Barry's eyes suddenly shot open revealing pitch black eyes as he growled and attacked the other man, Ava's eyes widened as he tried to fight Barry off.
Ava took this chance to try and wriggle out of the rope, she felt her wrist began to cut and the blood soaked the rope making it slightly easier for her to wriggle one hand out, she united the other and grabbed a scalpel from the medical tray, cutting of the ropes on her legs.
She stood up but felt slightly dizzy, probably from the blood she was lacking as she dove for the door and swung it open, the second she did the sun hit her face and she shielded her eyes from it.
An alarm started going off as she looked around, "How the shit do you guys get power?!" she panicked and started running, looking around. She thought that these guys were the ones who sent DR's to the community but now she was looking at it, she realized that maybe these things were getting too smart.
The whole area was swarming with Dead Runners, and people were crying and screaming just like they did when she was taken. She looked around and that's when her eyes landed on a truck in the distance, Ed, Justin, and Malcom stood in it with guns.
They fired at the DR's who tried to bite them, "EDWARD!" she yelled so loud that all of the dead turned to her, but she managed to catch Ed's attention.
He looked relieved but his face changed when the DR's ran towards her, though she didn't feel scared at all, she grabbed a wooden pole that was sharpened at the end and submerged in a bit of concrete debris off the ground and gripped onto it.
The first one she saw came at her and tried to grab her, she ducked out of the way and watched it fall to the ground before driving the end of the pole into its skull. She repeated the same technique to the next three that tried to kill her, blood splashing over her.
Ed watched in horror as Ava wiped out every single one of them, blood covered almost every inch of her face as she killed the last one and collapsed onto the truck.
"Ava!" Justin yelled and helped her up and hugged her, Ed stood there still as ever trying think of what to say.
"We need to get out of here before this get's over run" Malcom reloaded his gun and fired at the dead.
"It didn't work. I'm not immune" Ava looked up at Justin and he just gave her a sad smile.
"Welcome to the club" he sighed and they both sat up.
"The DR's are blocking he exit; we need to clear a path somehow" Ed told them and shot one.
Ava sat up and gripped onto the blood-soaked pole, "I can do it" she looked at the crowd of Dead Runners coming straight for them.
When they didn't respond she just jumped out of the truck and held her weapon out to the side of her. She took a deep breath and started to wipe them out, one by one, she saw a regular human point their gun at her as she ducked and rolled forward.
She stood up, driving the pole into the bottom of the man's neck as she did so. She watched his body fall to the floor and she froze, she just killed a human being. She looked at her hands, covered in blood and then down to the man. She didn't know what to feel except that when she watched his body drop... she felt nothing. No shame, no guilt. Nothing. In the moment she assumed it would be the right thing to die, him or her, but now it felt different.
"AVA!" Edward yelled, snapping her out of her thought as multiple DR's ran to her. She felt someone pick her up and throw her out of the way.
She landed on her side and let out a painful cry, she looked back up to see Ed standing there killing them as best he could. She wanted to get up and help him, but her leg burned form the impact it made with the ground. She looked to Malcom and Justin who were searching for more ammo to help Ed.
She watched Ed back up and throw his empty gun to the ground, he looked back to Ava, she used the pole to help her stand as she watched him look up to the sky, the dead started to corner him as she watched him turn to her.
"I love you" he mouthed before the dead surrounded him completely.
"EDWARD!" she screamed and tried to run to him, but Justin wrapped his arms round her middle and picked her up.
"He's gone, Ava!" he yelled and carried her to the truck, "We got a clear path let's go!" he yelled to Malcom who started the engine and drive to the gate.
Ava stared in horror at the last place she saw him before breaking down, "I got you, Ava... it's okay" Justin soothed her and cradled her in his arms.
Everything was fine, everything was under control. But now, the boys he loved was being eaten alive and there was nothings he could do about it.
