"Kiana, you broke her!" Zayne yelled at the woman sitting at the table.
Kiana scoffed, "She wanted me to hit her, and I wanted to hit her!" she yelled back, "I can't believe you're still sticking up for her, after what happened to Quinn?" Kiana stood up and slammed her fist on the table, leaning forward and tilting her head to the side.
Zayne was silent, he knew exactly why he was sticking up for her, he knew since she stumbled to them and fell into his arms. He'd known for the short time she'd been with them, "That's what I thought. You're such a shit" she went to walk away but stopped halfway.
"I'm taking a truck and getting out of here... I hope that you come to your senses and realize that whatever you're feeling towards this bitch, is wrong" she finished and slammed the door when she left.
Zayne sucked in a deep breath, he wanted to go after Kiana and beg her not to leave but a part of him just wanted to run back to Ava and beg her to stay. He had no idea what he was doing, what he was feeling but he knew it was going to get him hurt or killed.
Jackson was on her way to check up on Ava, she entered the room to see the monitor beeping rapidly, "Heart rates dropping" she muttered, and she knew what was happening.
She ran to her as fast as she could and turned Ava on her side just in time for her to spit out whatever was in her mouth, she heard the liquid drop onto the ground.
Ava rolled on her back, Jackson saw the blood on her lips and teeth, "Blood?" she mumbled and looked down at the pile of it on the ground.
She must've puncture something when she was moved, she started getting her ready and called in some of the people she'd been training in the community.
"What is it Jackson?" Zayne rushed into the room.
"She must've punctured something when she was moving, I missed it, but she could have caused some serious damage. Let's go" she said the last part to the others in the room and Zayne watched Ava get taken to the operating room where one out of three operations go... correctly.
Zayne sat down in the chair and waited for hours, hearing people yelling and seeing some of the people who had gone with Jackson run back and forth to get supplies seeing their aprons and scrubs covered in blood.
How could she have missed this? How could anyone have? He breathe din deeply and watched Ava get wheeled back in the room, "She's okay" Jackson told him and removed her gloves.
"So she's gonna be fine?" he stood up and clapped his hands in front of him.
"Yes, that's what I just said" she nodded and turned on her heel, slowly walking out.
Zayne moved to Ava's side and looked down at her, "Hey" he whispered, and her head snapped to him, her face was covered in blood and her eyes were pitch black, she growled at him and he jumped back.
"Hey" Ava repeated from the hospital bed and Zayne woke up instantly, "Mind telling me why you're squirming in a seat... and why you're in that seat?" Zayne soon came to his sense and sniffed when he sat up.
"Just wanted to check up on you, you okay?" he asked.
"Yes... why wouldn't I be?" she chuckled lightly and laid back against the pillows.
Zayne remembered the nightmare he had just had, "No reason. Just wanna make sure your okay" he smiled faintly. "About you being immune--?" he started but she just scoffed and rolled her eyes.
"Even if I die, no. I don't come back" she reassured him but her smiled faded, "Zayne, I thought I..." she gasped and squeezed her eyes shut, shifting slightly and coughed, "Thought I told you to go" she muttered and opened her eyes again, this time slower.
"Why are you trying to push me away?" he asked sincerely and leaned closer to her, tilting his head slightly.
Ava coughed again, "Because everyone who I even associated with... died" she coughed again and had to cover her mouth. She moved her hand away and looked at the blood in the palm of her hand, not showing Zayne and just hiding her hand.
"So that's why you don't like me... you love me" he grinned and said the last part mockingly.
Ava scoffed, "In your dreams" she shifted sight and winced when she moved, Zayne instinctively moved closer and placed his hand on hers.
"I don't... I barely even know you" she stuttered, trying to move her hand away but her hand remained where it was. Ava was terrified. Whatever she was feeling, it needed to stop. She can't feel anything, she can't, no connections, no losses. She'd lost everything in this world, and she was in pain because she had lost so much. And having a feelings for a guy she'd only known for what, a week?
Zayne felt himself inch closer to her, he had instinct to just move toward her, cup her precious face in his hands and kiss her. Ava on the other hand was still panicking he was actually going in to kiss her and she needed to make it stop.
She chose the only things that popped up in her head and clenched her fist, throwing it at the side of his face and he fell to the ground, smacking it on the floor and falling unconscious. "Oh shit" she muttered. She looked down and saw that he was still breathing and that he hadn't injured anything.
Ava knew she needed to get out of here. She looked at her knee and grunted, she held her stomach with one hand and swung her legs round to the edge of the bed, grunting as she did so. She reached for the long metal pole by the door, memories of her old weapon crossed her mind and she smiled slightly.
She reached for it but fell onto the ground, crying out into the palm of her hand so she didn't make any more noise. Ava grabbed a black shirt and grey hoodie from the draws, not bothering to zip it up. She pulled the hood over her head and bit her lip when she walked.
Ava managed to sneak out of the clinic and to a truck, remembering how Justin had taught her how to hotwire a car she connected the wires and used a screw driver to access the steering wheel from it's locked position.
She climbed and was tempted to slowly maneuver out of the community but just dropped the idea and followed a truck out, most likely a scout going to check on the horde.
