The Jonas family is very tight-knit, but no one gets along better than twin brother and sister Joe and Brexley. They've been inseparable for their entire lives, and even during the Jonas Brothers years, when Joe was off touring with Nick and Kevin...
It's been six months since I've talked to Brexley. At this point, I know our relationship has ended, but it's beyond the point of mattering now. I've spent the past few weeks getting my thoughts and ideas together for the band I want to create, and everything is basically figured out. Including the people I want to ask to be in this band with me. That's what I'm doing today; calling those people and seeing if they're down. I really hope they are, because if all three of them do this thing with me, it will be the most fun job I ever have. I believe that wholeheartedly.
I decide to start with the person I've known the longest: Jack. He was our drummer throughout everything with the Jonas Brothers, and since all of that folded I don't think he's been able to find a steady job. He's a great musician, a great friend of mine, and I would love to spend time with him again.
"Hello?" he says upon answering the phone.
"Hey, Jack, it's Joe Jonas."
"Hey, Joe! Haven't heard from you in awhile, man, what's up?"
"Well, you know, I've been sort of bored since everything happened with the band breakup. I've been thinking about fun and fresh new ideas to change up mainstream music a bit, and I thought it would be nice to create a band to do that with."
"Oh, that's sweet, dude!"
"Would you want to be the drummer in the band?" I say, deciding to just come right out and ask him.
"Seriously? Yeah, of course! That would be great!" he says excitedly.
"Awesome! I've got a few lyrics and concepts thought up, but I want to have everyone meet as a group for the first time to discuss them. I don't want this all to be decided by me; I want everyone to have a say in this."
"Sounds good. Who else is a part of it?"
"No one yet. You're the first one I called, but I'll be reaching out to two more people as soon as I'm off the phone with you."
"Great, then I won't keep you. I'm hype, though! I can't wait for that message saying we're all meeting up. This is going to be good," says Jack, and I laugh.
"I hope so, bro. Talk to you soon," I say, hanging up. Now, I've got to call Cole, who I know plays an excellent bass guitar. Getting him to join the band would really be an asset, I can tell you that.
"Cole?" I say when he answers.
"Joe Jonas? How's it going, dawg?" he responds casually.
"It's going alright, man! Here, I'm just going to cut to the chase. Are you in a band right now or are you open?"
"Nah, dude, I'm open. I'm looking to get into a band, though, if that's what you're asking."
"Oh, great! Because I'm thinking of starting up a new band, one that's different from every other band on the radio, you know? And I would like you, if you're down, to play bass guitar and keyboard in it."
"Of course, Joe! That would be sick. Just let me know where and when, okay, dawg?"
"Will do. Thanks, Cole," I say, and that's the end of the conversation. One more to go, and I hope it's as easy as the first two. If it is, then I've just put together a killer band. But I won't pat myself on the back yet; I want to talk to her now so I can get this all squared away.
"Hey, JinJoo, it's Joe calling!" I say when I hear her answer.
"Hey, Joe! What's up?"
"You're still playing guitar, right?"
"Yeah, but I haven't been in a band for about four months now, so it's kind of off and on," she says.
"So, here's the thing about that. I want to create a band, one that's got a different vibe from the others, and I already have a drummer and bassist lined up. I'm going to be the lead singer, so I didn't have to worry about that, but I was wondering if you would want to be the guitarist."
"I mean, yeah, I would be down!"
"Good, okay. I only have a few concepts thought out for it, and I want to have a full band meeting soon to discuss everything. I'll probably send out a mass text in a few minutes about it, to figure out when we're doing this."
"Sounds great, thanks, Joe!" she says, hanging up.
Well, that couldn't have gone any better. About time something in my life goes as planned! Switching to the Messages app right away, I type up a quick text to the three of them.

So it's a go for sure, then. I really am super excited that this worked out, because I love performing on stage with friends surrounding me. I've never found anything I like doing more than that, actually. The only unfortunate part is that I really want to tell Brexley, because she's my go-to when I am excited about something, but I can't. This is when not talking to her especially sucks. I guess reaching out to Sophie is the next best option, so I decide to do it.
"Soph, guess what!" I practically screech into the phone, and I hear her laugh before she speaks.
"What's up, J?"
"I formed a new band today!" I tell her.
"Wait, really? Joe, that's awesome! I'm so excited for you!" she says, sharing my enthusiasm.
"Thank you! We're all meeting up Tuesday at my place so we can talk everything through. I'm going to run my ideas past them all that day, see what they think, and hopefully we can get the ball rolling from there."
"I can already tell that you guys will be great. Who is in the band? Anyone I would know?"
"No, not really. Well, maybe Jack Lawless? Our drummer from the Jonas Brothers?"
"I can't say I know him. Either way, though, I'm sure he and the others are talented," Sophie says, and I nod though she can't see me.
"Yeah. They're going to be great to collaborate with, and it'll be nice not having to deal with Kevin and Nick all the time," I say with a laugh.
"I can imagine. As much as I love my brothers, I don't think I could handle seeing them 24/7."
"It really takes a different type of relationship to work with them, that's for sure. Well, anyway, I know you guys are busy so I'll let you go. I just wanted to tell you that," I say.
"Oh, yeah, I'm glad you did! I can't wait until you guys put out music. Who knows, maybe you'll pass Busted on my all-time favorite bands list," she says with a giggle, and I smile.
"Hope so. And if we have shows, maybe this will be the time you can come see me perform," I suggest.
"I hope I can. That would be great. Well, talk to you soon, Joe," she says, and we hang up.
I can't wait. The newest chapter of my life, one that feels to me like the greatest, is about to start. One without sibling drama, without breakups, without the struggles I've been facing as of late. Bring on this new band. I'm ready for it.
