Republic of Korea
Mr. Jeong's house is crowded with children who have just finished practicing taekwondo. He is cutting watermelons for them.
"Come on, everybody sit here and eat the watermelon." He placed a large tray of watermelon chunks in the middle of the room, which the children immediately attacked.
A few minutes later, one by one the children came home to be picked up by their parents. The house was quiet again, leaving only the watermelon skins and juice scattered. Mr. Jeong cleaned everything himself. Actually Tae Eul has hired a household assistant to help clean the house and accompany her father, but today it happened that the woman had permission to leave for family matters.
He opens his ringing cellphone, receives a chat from Eun Seob saying that he and Na Ri are not going back to Seoul today. They are at Eun Seob's parents house in Busan. He opened the lid of the pot filled with miyeoguk. This morning Na Ri said that she was craving Mr.Jeong's seaweed soup, but they didn't even come home.
"Aigoo, why didn't they tell me earlier? Who would eat this much miyeoguk?"
"I."
The voice of a woman who was missed by Mr. Jeong so much made him stunned with the lid of the pot still in his hand. Slowly he turned his head, found his beloved daughter standing at the door holding a baby with his son-in-law.
"Am I dreaming?" Murmurs Mr. Jeong, slapping his own cheeks.
"Dad ..." Tae Eul walked over to her father, getting into his arms.
"Tae Eul, my daughter, I really miss you," said Mr. Jeong, shedding tears.
Loosening his hug, Mr. Jeong stared at the tiny baby in Tae Eul's arms who met his gaze with a pair of beautiful eyes.
"This is your grandson, Dad. He was born two weeks ago. His name is Lee Geon."
"Aigoo, little prince," the baby changed hands to Mr. Jeong's arms. "Luckily he looks like his father, so he doesn't need double eyelid surgery."
Tae Eul chuckled irritably, while Gon covered his mouth in laughter.
Mr. Jeong invited them to eat while he played with his grandson. Tae Eul fetched rice and soup for her husband and herself.
"Is this a coincidence, or do you have a feeling that I'll be home today?" Asked Tae Eul.
"Why?" Her father asked back.
"Daddy cooked miyeoguk." (*)
"Actually I cooked it for Na Ri. She craved and asked me to cook it, but they didn't even come home because she suddenly had a craving for Milmyeon Busan."
"Cravings? Is Na Ri pregnant?"
"Yes, it's been three months."
"Whoa, Madam Noh's herbal medicine works really well!" Exclaimed Tae Eul in amazement.
Having just eaten a few spoons, Geon started whining, accompanied by a bad smell that began to fill the dining room.
"Oh, it looks like Little Prince pooped," said Mr. Jeong.
Tae Eul is about to move to replace Geon's diaper, but Mr. Jeong forbids her. He took the diaper from the baby equipment bag that Tae Eul brought.
"When you were a baby, Dad always changed your diapers, even then there weren't any disposable diapers because it was too expensive to buy. I was the one who washes your used cloth diapers every day."
Tae Eul looked at her father sadly. She knows how hard her father struggled to care and raise her, especially since her mother was sick until she died. She felt guilty because she might not be able to take care of him when he was old. Gon who realized his wife's anxiety, grabbed her hand.
