CHAPTER EIGHTY ONE

Season 4, Episode 15:  Girls (and Boys) on Film

Will looks to the glee club. "Everybody loves movies. They don't just tell stories... they transport us to other worlds. They are inspirational. They provide comfort, and they help us escape from our day-to-day anxieties."

"Like getting left at the altar?" Tina comments.

"Too soon." Violet warns.

Will nods to Tina. "Exactly. Or in your guys' case, studying for exams or... worrying about regionals. In any case, for this week's assignment, I want you to pick your favorite songs from your favorite movies."

There's cheers and applause.

Will smiles. "Okay, it's not that simple, guys. This is a group competition... boys against girls and we are doing mash-ups." He announces.

The new kids are excited. However Sam, Blaine and Charlie look weary. Brittany, Artie and Tina look concerned. Finn studies Violet's expression carefully.

Violet looks like she might be sick. "I need to step outside for a minute, Mr. Shue." She tells Will.

Will nods and lets her leave the room. "Finn why don't you walk with her? She needs a friend." He says.

Finn nods and walks out of the room, trailing not too far behind Violet.

"What the hell? I thought we couldn't leave rehearsal." Kitty states.

Tina looks at Kitty. "This is different."

"How is it different?" Jake asks.

Artie sighs. "It was our first boys vs. girls mash-up competition in the New Directions. Both teams took vitamin D pills to enhance their performance."

Brittany nods. "I still remember that. When Kurt said that those pills were pseudoephedrine tablets, and that Violet was allergic to those. She-She almost died."

Jake, Marley, Kitty, Ryder, Unique, Joe, Sugar, Blaine, Charlie and Sam's eyes grow twice their size.

Tina nods. "If Kurt and Finn hadn't started CPR and injected her with an EpiPen... Violet wouldn't be here today. We thought she'd be okay after our second boys vs. girls competition, but without Kurt here this year... she may not handle it very well."

Will nods with a sigh. "She can choose whether or not to participate. I won't force her to. I made that mistake the first time, and I've felt responsible for her almost death ever since."

Everyone nods and then splits off into their two groups to discuss their mash-up ideas.

Violet sits against the lockers, knees huddled to her chest. She's trying not to have a panic attack.

"Violet? Mind if I sit with you?" Finn asks.

Violet looks up to see Finn before her. "No you can sit with me." She says.

Finn gets seated next to his sister and looks at her with sad eyes. "You don't have to do this assignment y'know. Mr. Shue will understand."

Violet sighs. "I want to do the assignment. But then I think back to that... and I feel so scared and nervous."

Finn puts an arm around her shoulders. "I still think about it too. There's been a couple of times where I wake up crying because of that. We were all so scared of losing you, Violet." He admits softly.
