Everest and Jake seem uneasy at Chase's tone towards the pups when he was speaking. They knew he was pretty upset but he sounded borderline heartless.

"Yo Chase man, are you sure you're ok?" Jake asks.

Chase gives him a confused look.

"Yeah, of course I am. Why do you ask?" The Shepherd asks.

"I don't know, your tone just seemed kinda off" Jake says.

"Well, I'm completely fine. I just had to speak my mind and get my words out" Chase replies.

"Well, ok. I have some penguin tagging to do so I'll let Everest get you adjusted to being here" Jake says as he grabs his tagger and heads out of the house, leaving the Husky and Shepherd alone.

"So..." Chase starts. "What do I need to do to help out? I don't want to be a moocher to you guys" Chase says.

Everest shrugs.

"I guess you should just ask Jake when he gets back" she says sort of blankly.

Chase didn't like the way she responded. The energy she was giving off was the complete opposite of the type she was giving last night. He didn't feel the love anymore. It's like he was speaking to a complete other pup.

"Everest, I get if you're upset about how I spoke to the pups bu-"

"No no Chase I'm not mad or anything, it was just so strange. That tone is so...unlike you. I'm just still taking in all of the words you said, and one things for sure. It didn't sound like you lied about anything you said" The Husky says.

Chase sighed in relief.

"Ok good, because after last night I really just want to enjoy being here with you. You're great company" Chase admits.

The Husky blushes at the compliment.

"Thanks Chase, it was nice talking to you last night. I really hated seeing you crying, so if you really think it's best for you to be here, then I'm completely fine with that" Everest says.

"Aw thanks Everest" Chase says. "Thinking about it now, I was really crushed seeing you start to cry last night. You're usually such a cheerful pup, so causing you to cry really makes me feel guilty" Chase admits.

Everest is uneasy with her response.

"Thanks Chase, I was really crying because I couldn't imagine losing another important person in my life" She says with her head down.

"A-another one?" Chase asks in concern for her sudden mood shift.

"Yes. Before I found Jake, I was traveling alone because my parents died in an avalanche trying to save me. Before any of that happened, they told me to embrace any fear that tried to consume me. That's what kept me from running away from the snow. I stay in the mountains to h-honor them. That's why it hurt me knowing you almost died in the snow. I couldn't handle the idea of losing you to a similar fate as them" Everest says as tears start to stream down her face.

Chase was caught off guard by this. He never considered the dark past the Husky had. He never questioned why she traveled alone before meeting Jake, it just never seemed necessary.

"E-Everest I had no idea" Chase says as he pulls the crying Husky into a hug.

"Chase, I-I still blame myself for their deaths! I just c-couldn't let the same thing happen to you!" Everest says while holding onto the Shepherd.

Chase suddenly is filled with guilt after hearing all of this. He never meant to trigger those memories in the Husky. He just wanted to get away and never had plans of almost freezing to death.

"Everest, I'm so sorry, you went through that. And I'm sorry for scaring you like that. I never meant to" The Shepherd apologizes.

Everest can't stop her tears. Almost like they were held in a secret part of her mind.

"Chase, I-I'm not mad at you, it's just this i-I-is my first time telling someone this. I never mentioned it to Jake at any point and it hurts reliving the memory" The Husky explains.

Chase could tell that her tears weren't gonna stop anytime soon so he makes a suggestion.

"I can tell that this is really hurting you. Do you wanna take a nap while Jake is gone?" Chase asks.

Everest gives a weak nod as she walks over to her sleeping spot. Chase doesn't even ask as he walks over to lay down with her. He wraps his arms back around the whimpering Husky and whispers in her ear.

"I'm not going anywhere, and I'll never leave you" Chase whispers while holding the Husky tight to his chest as the two begin to doze off.

With the Paw Patrol

The pups are in utter distraught at the call they had just went through. The search seemed useless at that point. They learned Chase's location but it felt like it stopped there. It was clear his mind was made up.

"I can't believe that really happened" Marshall says, still taking in the recent course of events.

"Yeah, me too. He really doesn't want to come back" Rocky says.

"I never thought we went THAT far" Rubble says, rethinking their actions.

Skye was silent in her tears.

"Well pups, I guess we just head back now" Ryder says.

The pups give a shocked expression to the quitting boy.

"Wait, so we're just gonna let him leave us?" Marshall asks.

Ryder shrugs his shoulders.

"Look pups, I want him to come back just as much as you guys do, but we can't force him to come back. We can only hope he will" Ryder replies.

"How are we gonna do missions without a police pup Ryder? Or a second in command?" Rocky asks.

Ryder thinks before forming his words.

"I hate to say it pups, but it looks like we'll need to find him a replacement. Either one of you guys might have to take his role or we'll have to go look for someone that can operate his things" Ryder says with reluctance.

"A replacement!?" Skye yells in shock and sadness, startling everyone. "We're just gonna ignore his absence like it's nothing? If so, then we're making the same mistakes that made him run away" The cockapoo says in anger.

"Look Skye, I get that you're upset, but we still need a police pup and Chase isn't here. We have to get a hopefully temporary replacement until we can get him to come home" Ryder explains. "You can call him when we get back to the lookout if you want to try and convince him but that's about all we can do"

"Well, I'm gonna try and speak to him because I can't just let him leave. I miss him too much" Skye says with a frown.

"Well, alright pups let's get back to the lookout, since this mission is done" Ryder says as they head back to the lookout.

When the pups arrive to the lookout they decide to play outside, trying to recreate the magic the pups had when everyone was together and happy, but in reality the pups new it was time for a new life.
