Chase Runs Away

Extremely Conflicted

At Jake's Cabin

Skye was frozen in disbelief. Nothing about the moment she was in felt real. Everything felt so unnatural. Nothing was registering in her mind as being true. It took a moment before everything sat in.

"You guys... a-are dating?" Skye asks in a still yet startled voice.

Chase nods his head.

Skye didn't know how to feel. She couldn't believe the words coming out of the Shepherd's mouth. Was this even the same one?

"I can't believe this. How could you?" Skye asks in an even more quiet voice.

"Huh?" Chase asks.

"HOW COULD YOU?!" Skye yells in fury, startling the other two pups as she growls.

Jake would have heard that very clearly if he hadn't been out.

"Sk-Skye calm down-"

"Don't tell me to calm down! What kind of pup are you?!" Skye says as she shoved the Shepherd.

Everest jumps out of her seat and in front of Skye, standing up to her.

"Skye, you need to calm down, NOW!" The Husky yells to the Cockapoo.

Skye rolls her eyes, ignores her and steps back up to Chase.

"Chase, I don't know what happened to you but you know exactly what you're doing and why it's wrong" Skye says to Chase with scorn in her voice. "You used to be this strong leader pup we all looked up to but now you're just as dirty as Humdinger's cats".

This made Chase's blood boil and he gets closer to Skye with anger in his eyes.

"You have absolutely no room to speak! I wouldn't even be here if it wasn't for you and those other pups. Everest is the one pup who actually treats me like I'm worth something out here and not just a serious leader with a megaphone!" Chase shouts to the cockapoo.

Skye was very much over this situation.

"Oh get over it Chase! So what? We said some things about you. If it hurt you that much then what would've been the point of telling you anyway. Especially if you were just gonna cry your way up a mountain and almost freeze to death" Skye says bitterly.

Everest did not like the way Skye was talking to Chase. She didn't care how close the cockapoo was to him, she was not gonna scold him over his near death experience right in front of her.

"Ok, Skye! You have no idea what Chase went through getting here or how he has felt the past few days! You guys pushed him away and now you're mad because he's with me?! What kind of sense does that make?!" The Everest says with her eyes glued to the angry Cockapoo.

Skye didn't care anymore. She had no concern for keeping anything discreet. She came out fully.

"Here's my problem!" Skye starts. "Chase, you knew that Marshall had a crush on Everest and you went out of your way to steal her from him!" Skye says as she scolds the Shepherd.

Everest's eyes widen. This was all news to her. She had no idea the Dalmatian had liked her. Regardless though, she wasn't going to back down like that.

"Well...if Marshall liked me, he should have said something earlier. It's not Chase's job to hold off on something because someone else wants to take forever to say something" Everest says.

Chase was shocked at the Husky fighting his battle with his former teammate.

"And another thing, Skye! Chase didn't 'steal' me from anyone. I was never Marshall's but I'm Chase's now and you'll have to get over that" Everest says in Skye's face.

Skye didn't like the way the Husky was acting. She felt like Everest was bragging that Chase was hers now. This made her mad. Very mad. Skye takes her paw and slaps the Husky in the face.

"Skye!" Chase yells at the scene unraveling in front of him.

Everest was shocked at the audacity of the Cockapoo with the smug look. Any sense of peace left her eyes and was replaced with a deep hatred as she tackles the cockapoo and pins her down. Skye struggles to get free but is unable to, due to the Husky's size. Everest gives Skye the biggest glare as she uses one of her paws and claws at Skye's face.

Skye yells and winces at the pain. She manages to break free from the grasp of the Husky and backs up a bit. She feels her face and immediately winces at the cuts present. She turns to Everest with a growl.

"Oh. You did not just do that" Skye says in a dark tone.

The Cockapoo rushes towards the Husky and knocks her over. Before Everest got the Chance to get up, Skye used her canine teeth and bit down on Everest's face and didn't let go until she knew she left blood.

Everest screams from the pain and pushes the Cockapoo off of her.

Chase wanted to call out to them and tell them to stop the fighting but her knew it would be useless. So instead he watched as the two females circled each other, preparing to do more damage. He knew there was nothing else he could do.

In The Mountains 6:00 PM

The group of boys make their way up the rough snowy path. Determined to reach the cabin before night came.

"Hey you guys, don't you think we should've told Ryder where we were going?" Marshall mentions.

"I thought one of you guys would eventually do that" Rubble says as they continue up the path.

They knew it was pretty early on in the evening but the Sky seemed a bit darker.

"Alright I'll call him" Rocky says as he calls the boy.

Ryder responds immediately with urgency in his voice.

"Rocky where are you guys?" The boy asks.

"Hey, Ryder we're heading to Jake's mountain to go see Chase and Everest. We meant to tell you before we left but we forgot." Rocky explains.

Ryder's fear becomes realized.

"That's what I was afraid of. There's supposed to be a terrible snow storm tonight. It's not safe for you pups" Ryder  says. "You need to come back NOW before you get caught out there" The boy says with authority.

The pups think for a while .

"Ryder we're too deep in. It would be a harder trip making our way back to Adventure Bay. We have to keep going for our own safety" Rocky replies.

Ryder sighs in stress.

"Ok, pups just hurry up and find shelter and don't get stuck in the snow. Good luck pups" Ryder says as they hand up.

The pups continue their walk for a while until they could feel the snow coming down hard.

"Uh oh" The pups say as they feel a tremor below them.

The snow was starting to flow strongly and the pups were terrified until they saw the cabin. They make a dash for it.
