Chase Runs Away

A Puptastic Finale

While Chase and Skye were taking their precious time making their way back to the cabin, the other pups were making a mad dash back. They had come so far, so getting caught was not an option. They ducked and jumped around trees and snow mounds as the cabin began making its way into their vision.

The group made their way back to the cabin exasperated and panting. Jake glanced at them questionably.

"What's up with you guys? Why are you so tired?" Jake asked.

The pups panicked to come up with an answer.

"We were racing to see who could get here first!" Marshall panicked.

Jake chuckled at the silliness of the pups.

"Oh ok. Well breakfast is ready for you guys" He explained.

Rubble's stomach rumbled at the word breakfast, eliciting a chuckle out of everyone else.

As the pups made their way to the table, Chase and Skye arrived thorough the door. Each sporting a big grin across their face.

"You two seem happy" Jake said as he got everyone's bowls together.

The other pups giggle as the pair began to blush.

"Yeah we just had a nice walk" Skye states.

"Y-yeah we had fun" Chase adds. Making sure he wasn't making eye contact.

The pups gave them a questioning look, but knew it was best for them not to ask follow up questions.

Jake fixes the pup's bowls and makes his way back to his room, but pauses.

"Oh I forgot I needed to let you guys no something. I'm honestly surprised none of you ever brought it up since you came up here, but I've been keeping contact with Ryder" Jake starts

The pup's eyes widen as the name hit their memory. He had somehow slipped their minds.

"Oh my gosh" Skye starts. "I...completely forgot about him" the cockapoo says in awe.

"Yeah, me too. I guess during all off this commotion he sort of just faded into the back of my mind" Rocky says.

"Yeah, I guess I kind of just got so used to being up here, that I forgot he was just there without us" Rubble said with his head down.

Jake stood awkwardly, looking at the expressions on the pup's faces. They clearly felt a bit guilty for forgetting their owner over the course of a week.

"Look, guys. It's completely normal to start forgetting someone when you don't speak to them for a while, but you guys still remember him. It has only been a week and he's still there waiting for you guys" Jake explained.

The pups took in the information and remained quiet for a bit. Chase spoke up.

"Wait a minute. Why didn't he ever call us personally on our pup tags?" The Shepherd questioned.

"Oh Yeah, he could've been talking to us this whole time" Zuma adds.

Jake sighs.

"The day all of you guys came after Chase and the fight broke out and just...everything happened, Ryder wanted to call, but I told him about all of that so we both agreed that he'd make contact once I was sure you guys were ok again. He figured that a new environment with a new person would make the situation a bit less stressful for you guys" Jake explained.

The pups were amazed and shocked. The boy cared so much about them to the point where he was willing to let them out of his presence with no contact.
