Chase Runs Away

Through the City Filled with Self Pity

The Shepherd didn't know where he was going to go but he knew he needed to get far away the lookout. He couldn't be around those people that clearly didn't like him for who he was.

He was running through the same path he had walked through not too long ago. Nothing much had changed on the sunny day but to Chase, the day had just turned cloudy and rain was falling all over him. He felt like he was just secretly disowned from his family.

"I can't believe they really don't like me!" The Shepherd thought in sadness. "I-I thought I was doing good as the leader. I was so good to them" the Shepherd continues in thought as tears stream down his face.

He knew he couldn't just leave for the day and comeback later. They clearly wanted a break from him but Chase was gonna make it better for them. He would leave permanently.

"Where do I even go!" The pup says as he's staring through his blurry vision.

He knew he couldn't go to someone like Katie or Mr.Porter because they would obviously call Ryder and that would ruin everything. In fact, no where in Adventure Bay was safe for him to hide out. He had to leave town.

He realized that soon it would be dark so it probably wouldn't be best to go through the woods. He had no idea what was out there but he was sure his tennis ball cannon and net wouldn't keep him safe forever.

He took a good look around until he finally settled on Jake's mountain.

Chase sniffles. "N-nothing but harmless penguins there" the Shepherd thinks as he starts making his way towards the mountains. "No going back from here".

At the Lookout

At the lookout tower, while the pups are hanging out outside, Ryder is working on upgrading the monitor the Paw Patrol uses for missions when his pup pad beeps.

"Paw Patrol, Ryder speaking" The boy says as he notices Katie on the other end.

"Ryder it's terrible! Callie and I were going rock climbing and she slipped and fell down to a ledge!" The frantic girl explains while pointing her phone to the startled kitten barely balancing on the rocks. "Ryder please save her!"

"Oh no that is an emergency. Don't worry Katie! No job is too big, no pup is too small!" The boy says as he pulls out the dial to alarm all of the pups. "Paw Patrol, to the lookout!"

"Ryder needs us!" Marshall, Rubble, Zuma, Skye and Rocky say as they run to the elevator, dropping their toys as they approached.

Marshall, as usual, slipped on a chew toy as the rest of the pups waited in the elevator and crashed into them like bowling pins.

"Strike!" The Dalmatian says as the pups laugh but the laugh is cut short when the pups notice a member missing.

"Hey, where's Chase?" Rubble asks receiving a shrug from everyone else.

"Maybe he's already up there waiting for us" Rocky suggests.

"Oh yeah, he probably is" Skye says as the elevator ascends.

The pups make their way to the top and hop into positions in their professional ways. Then they notice the missing pup and get confused all over again.

Ryder is staring down at his pup pad getting ready to thank the pups for coming when he's surprised by the lack of his second in command saying his usual phrase. He looks up in surprise at the missing Shepherd.

"Hey, you guys where's Chase?" The boy asks.

"I don't know? I haven't seen him since he went out for the walk this morning" Skye says slightly worried.

"Hmm" Ryder says. "I told him to be on stand by" The boy says as he calls for Chase on the big screen.

The pups are startled by the image of their police pup with dried tears across his eyes and a face of pure depression.

"R-Ryder sir?" The pups says while on his trip.

"Chase, where are you? I told you to be ready I'm case I needed you" the boy says disappointingly.

"Yeah, Chase that's so unlike our leader" Rubble says.

Chase gives the bulldog a glare that scares everyone.

"R-Ryder I-I know when I'm not wanted. I'm doing this for the good of the team. I quit" The Shepherd says.

Ryder and the pups gasp in pure shock. Chase really just quit the team?

"Chase, what are you talking about? Of course we want you. Why would you even think that way?" The boy asks.

Chase's tears start streaming down his face again.

"Ryder this has nothing to do with you! You did nothing wrong. I learned the truth and I'm not gonna be the annoying leader anymore" Chase says in sadness.

The pup's hearts sank as they realize Chase had listened to their conversation.

"Chase, please tell me what you're talking about" The boy begs.

Chase is silent in sadness and then speaks up.

"Ask the paw patrol" Chase says before hanging up.

"Oh no" Skye says silently as tears start forming in her eyes.

The pups lower their heads in shame of themselves.

Ryder gives the pups a stern look.

"Ok you guys" the boy starts rubbing his temples. "What is Chase talking about?"

The pups are silent, not wanting to speak up.

Ryder sighs. "Ok we'll discuss this later. We have a mission to do" The boys says as he gives out the orders.
