Chase Runs Away

Attempt #1 at Peace

Jake's Cabin 2:00 pm

Chase awoke to another day of snow. The house was still covered and it was hard to tell what the current condition was. He, however noticed that the pups were up before him, chatting among themselves. That's when he looked at the clock and noticed it was 2:00 pm!

"Ugh, this is so unlike me. I've been sleeping way too much lately" the Shepherd thinks to himself.

Chase knew that nothing about him was familiar anymore. He didn't feel like a take charge pup that woke up extra early and was ready for a mission at anytime. He felt more like a sad stray. The only thing he knew he still had was his strong sense of smell. Everything else felt off and at this point, and he was willing to do what it took to fix it.

The Shepherd kept his head low so the other pups couldn't tell he was awake. He could see and hear Everest and Skye speaking by the fireplace.

"I think he hates me" Everest says with a frown.

Skye looks confused by the Husky's words.

"Why would he hate you of all pups? You're literally his girlfriend, Ev." Skye reminds.

Everest looks very conflicted about the words she's about to say. Skye notices.

"Ev, what's wrong?" The Cockapoo asks.

Everest sighs.

"We were talking yesterday morning about stuff and I upset him" The Husky starts.

"How did you do that?" Skye asks.

"Well we were just talking and I brought up the idea of him joining the Paw Patrol again, and he mentioned kissing you as a joke of how ridiculous that sounded and I told him that I didn't find it that crazy, and that's when he got upset with me" Everest explains.

Skye looked shocked. It was strange hearing that the Shepherd's mind prioritized her. Even if it was for ridiculous reasons. It was strange but made her feel strangely positive.

"Wait. Why did you not find it crazy?" Skye asks with wide eyes.

Everest's eyes widen as she hadn't realized the Cockapoo wasn't aware of Chase's previous feelings.

"Oh, it's just you're an amazing and pretty pup that any guy would be lucky to have" The Husky half lies.

Skye was slightly disappointed from not hearing what she wanted to hear but she still appreciated the compliment.

"Aw thanks Ev! If it couldn't be me, I'm glad it's you" The cockapoo says as she hugs the Husky.

"Of course Skye. You know you'd be a prize to anyone" Everest replies with a smile.

Everest hated lying to her best friend but it wasn't her place to confess Chase's old feelings. The Shepherd had to do it on his own time. It was only fair.

Chase finished listening in and he couldn't believe what he heard and saw.

"I can't believe Everest kept my secret. She really cares about how I feel that much. How could I ever of doubted that?! Of course she did. She's been here for me since the day I left the Paw Patrol and she has been right about everything so far. Ugh, and I've been so terrible to her and everyone. She deserves so much better then m-"

Chase cuts himself off and shakes his head.

"Stop it Chase! You gotta get out of this self-loathing state of mind. There's no more pity left for you. You gotta step up and fix your mistakes" Chase thinks to himself. "But how should I do this?"
