Chase was having a very brief mental conversation in his mind. He hadn't considered up until now, how he would get Skye alone. He figured it shouldn't be that difficult. All he really had to do was ask, but he didn't like the tension that formed when he talked to the pups. Luckily, he had fixed that with Rocky, Zuma and Rubble. Now all he had to do was mend the damage in his relationships with the other pups.
"Skye might be a little harder though. I mean she likes-well uh, liked me as much as I liked her" The Shepherd thinks to himself as he approaches the three pups.
Marshall, Skye and Everest notice the Shepherd approaching them and tense up a bit. Everest is the first to speak.
"H-hey Chase, I see you're awake" Everest says in a lighthearted voice"
Marshall and Skye look down. Neither of them wanted to speak. Even after the moment they had yesterday, they still felt iffy about their relationship with the Shepherd. Truly, Everest felt partially the same way, but she was still his girlfriend and he didn't deserve to feel like a criminal or outcast.
"Hey, Everest hey, pups. Yeah, I've just been chatting with the other pups." Chase replies in the most normal voice he could pull off.
"Oh that's nice. We were just talking too. Do you wanna join us?" Everest says, trying to keep the mood as non awkward as possible.
"Um, actually, I wanted to speak to Skye alone. If you guys don't mind.
Everest looked surprised and disappointed. It felt like the Shepherd had been avoiding being around her. It really felt like he was trying to leave her.
Marshall remained quiet but his expression showed some surprise at the Shepherd's request.
Skye seemed just as shocked as Marshall but she did not reject. She reluctantly responds.
"Uh- s-sure Chase" The Cockapoo says awkwardly while avoiding eye contact.
"Thanks, Skye" Chase says happily, surprised that it worked as the two made their way across the room.
Rocky, Zuma and Rubble glance at the the two walking together. They're at first confused but decide to ignore it. How the Shepherd handled his business was his responsibility.
"So...what did you want to talk about?" Skye asks while still not looking at the Shepherd.
Chase knew that the conversation would go nowhere if he allowed himself to be just as awkward as Skye was being. He just had to let it out.
"Skye, listen. You and I both know that everything isn't fine, and I hate it" Chase starts.
The Shepherd's straightforwardness grabbed the Cockapoo's full attention. She was now looking him straight in the eyes.
"Chase, I'm gonna say this in the nicest way I can put this. Us talking about you was one thing, but at this point everything else is your fault. You outcasted yourself and...I hate that it happened like this" Skye says with sad yet hard eyes.
Chase let the sting of the Cockapoo's comments roll off of his back as he continued.
"Skye I know that! I don't blame anyone but myself for this. I'm not asking for your pity, I just want us to be on good terms again. I hate that I ruined my relationship with the pups, but I don't wanna lose you" Chase says, sadly.
Skye didn't know what to say. She could just say no and let the Shepherd deal with the consequences of his actions, but was that really something she'd do? Honestly, she missed being his friend too. More than anything though, she missed when liking him had the potential to lead to something. All of that was dead now. She wanted to know that same Shepherd was under all of this craziness she saw coming out of him before.
