Luz was running in a forest. Her legs pounding against the ground. Leaves crunching under her feet. Each step more desperate than the last. She was running to someone. But she couldn't remember why. Luz pushed forwards, her lungs empty, her heart racing. She broke through the thick bushes and saw Amity. She ran forwards, the distance between them closing. Amity saw Luz and ran for her, the distance between them was nearly gone. But as Luz reached for Amity, something pulled her back. A black coil pulling the girl away.
"Amity!" Luz screamed, her arms desperately flailing towards her friend. With a flash Amity was gone, and Luz woke up. Sweat running down her back, Luz tenderly touched her face, only to find tears.
"Kid?" Eda asked entering the room. "Are you okay? I heard screaming"
Luz nodded her head, pushing away the tears with the back of her hand. Her knuckles dragging against her sunken face. Luz wrapped her hands around herself, her arms cradling her body. Eda said nothing as she walked closer, the gap between them shrinking. Each step was softer than the last, until Eda was looking down at Luz. Gently, the owl crouched down and held Luz in her arms. The distance between them was gone.
