The little bank we chose to put all this ridiculous money into is not used to people dropping in with as many checks as we did. There turned out to be a brand new, slightly closer into town branch banking location on highway 290 so we did not have to go all the way to the original and primary location farther East in Elgin. Saved us 10 kilometers, and we got to avoid the little city where I was kidnapped by the HPA.
We explained what we had, what we wanted to do to the banker behind the lobby desk, and they took us to the manager of the brank, whose desk plate announced he was a V.P.
He took us to a conference room so we could spread out, and had the person from the lobby stay to help with the pile.
They tabulated the pile of checks three times to be sure they had them all added up correctly. When I asked if it would be possible to set up a quarterly autopay to the Food Bank, he assured me that would be no issue.
I think the fact we dropped in millions of dollars may have gotten us a slightly higher level of service than most patrons get. I am sure some businesses drop in more, but who knows? Maybe they just give excellent service at little banks.
Getting it all set up took longer than I would have thought. Seems that there are some Federal things they have to do on transactions this big. Maybe this is part of why Helen was woofed we were not including her: I am sure now that to keep this out of some Federal scrutiny she will have to go talk to a Vampire at the IRS or treasury department or something. Not Crew, so I am not sure who.
Once it was done, and Morgan and I were both on the account, we finally got to leave.
I hate that out here in the human world she is Morgan Olsen, friend, and co-owner. If they noticed our matching wedding rings (including my lovely mangagement ring that Morgan had spearheaded getting me) they said nothing. They took the deposit, created the account, set up the autopay.
As we rolled toward the park, we talked about where to stop for beer.
"The Spec's Liquor Warehouse back there in Elgin is tiny. The smallest one I have ever seen. More of a Liquor convenience store. Be better to go to one nearer the Park anyway. Stay colder. We don't have a cooler." Morgan said
"I am fine not going to Elgin. I was kidnapped there last time I went." I said.
"That too. They put some new buildings in where that Helicopter landed." Morgan agreed.
"That's good! One less sky-ambush zone."
I framed up a question.
"You would divorce Helen if I do?" I asked as we drove West.
"Maybe. If she does not get why she fucked up so hard on this one, can I trust her?" Morgan asked. Not me, just a general, out into the world kind of question.
"You don't think I am being childish about staying so angry? I have tried to not be angry, but you hit it on the head. I can't believe she did this to me." I said, looked over at her, driving my car. "Gods: You look so much better in this car than I do." I added.
Morgan smiled. "You, my heart, are biased. No. I understand why you are angry. Helen sees all the good you are doing in the role she put you in. You are changing a world that hates changes and has needed them for a while. Why you are perfect for the role: you don't care who you make angry because you did not want the role in the first place, but since you are there, might as well fix it. Vampirism needs to enter the twenty-first century, and you are dragging it there by the hair. It is kicking and screaming and you are making enemies and friends by the truckload. I am not being overly dramatic when I say that Denise and Anne would die for you. Carol and Luciana not far behind. All that good result does not excuse HOW she did it. This is a case study in the end not justifying the means. It would be fine if you weren't married to her. The drafting would not also be the betrayal."
