Waiting Room

We are standing around in the waiting area of the Hospital. Some of us. Danielle and her Grandmother are sitting in the cafeteria, after having been to the gift shop to buy Danielle entertainment. Vera, Angel, and Denise went to the cafeteria as well. Vera is hungry, and Denise and Angel are thirsty, and all the waiting area has is bad coffee.

Really bad. Acidic and burned to a crisp bad. It's probably a rule that free coffee in waiting areas in hospitals must cause stomach ulcers. Either pay for coffee in the cafe or pay for your stay in the hospital fixing your stomach.

Ken, Cherlynn, and Jessica are in the back, consulting with the Doctors. I have not been listening in to any personal exchanges between Ken and Cherlynn, but their body language reads to me as 'Healing'. Ken wants Cherlynn to know he wants to help her dad, no matter how her dad feels about him. He is not going to return his hatred with hate. He loves his wife too much for that.

The rest of us are milling about, waiting for news. I smelled Phil as they loaded him into the ambulance, and I knew Jessica had come as close as is Vampirely possible in working another Doctorial miracle. Maybe not at the level of how she saved Morgan, but she was working with a human, not a Vampire that wanted to live. She had expunged much of the infection, sequentially reduced blood sugar levels to approaching normal (there is only so much my earth goddess can do in limited time), and even excised and cauterized rot. Good thing she had Phil under for all of that. I remember cauterizing Morgans wounds with gunpowder in the field. It still hurts my heart to hear those screams, even knowing it was the right thing to do.

Jessica came out after briefing the ER docs on her treatments and diagnosis. "The nose knows. The left foot has to come off. Gangrene. 'Wet'. Lots of dead tissue and the antibiotics will not do anything to help that. Should help with the mental confusion, though. On top of everything else, he was running a fever because of the infections."

Morgan hugged Jessica. "Thank you for everything you did. You were awesome!"

Jessica hugged back. "Of course, love. Anything. Always. You know that."

Sam, who had driven up to join the waiting party, watched that hug, heard that declaration. He was interested and tried not to look.

Morgan is fully aware of Sam's attention upon her.

Morgan hugged Helen next. "Add you! Smoothing over all the medical stuff here, with the office. Magical. Thank YOU!"

Million-dollar guarantees against treatment for uninsured patients will smooth over all sorts of things.

"You are welcome, dear. Of course." Helen said. She was slightly British stiff upper lipped in her response, so Morgan kissed her, tilting her head back and opening her lips. Helen melted into it.

"Oh. OK. Full public then, are we?" Helen asked. I wondered why she was being stiff. Helen assumed Morgan was not ready to be 'out'.

"Yes, dear." Morgan said.

I waited nearby and was not disappointed. Morgan pulled my face to hers and said nothing before she kissed me. Morgan made sure I was tingling before she relented. "And of course, my partner in all things. Thank you." She said against my lips.

"Hey. Where is MY kiss?" Jessica asked.

"So demanding." Morgan told her, but moved back to Jessica, pulled her face to hers to deliver another tingler.

I watched to see what Sam's reaction to the public displays of affection would be, but he is now studiously ignoring it. Morgan said he is a southern boy at heart, so I am sure this is pushing his limits, not to mention when they were partners Morgan was unmitigatedly hetero and in trouble over the fact that her hetero behavior was 'male' with no ethnic modifiers.
