AFTER TWELVE HOURS IN LABOR, Nicholas Drake Ledger was born weighing six pounds, five ounces. He came out with a full head of dirty blonde hair and his eyes were the most piercing blue Lennon thought she had ever seen. As much as she liked the Leonardo name, as soon as she saw their little boy the name Heath suggested fit too perfectly.
The clock had just struck 2 o'clock in the afternoon, and for the first time since Nick's birth earlier that morning Lennon was finally able to catch some sleep. Everyone went in and out of the hospital room that morning, they all wanted to meet their baby.
Thankfully Maggie was able to make it in time when Lennon was ready to push. As much as having Heath there for support was appreciated, Maggie and Lennon had grown a lot closer because of pregnancy talk. The whole experience was incredibly moving, Heath couldn't stop crying and neither could the two women. The only thing that could've possibly ruined the moment after Nick's birth was Heath's decision to place a firm kiss on Lennon's lips. Being too high in pain she let it go, though.
"My god, he's so bloody cute," Heath ran his fingers along his sons face, lightly as to not wake him up.
"He really is," Lennon's voice sounded barely above a whisper, but she slowly sat up in bed to make her presence known.
Heath stood from the chair and took a seat beside Lennon on the bed. He carefully held Nick's head as he handed him to Lennon, the new parent in him worrying too much.
"Matilda and Michelle are on their way," Heath smiled, "I can't wait for her to meet him, it's gonna be so fucking cute. I might cry."
Lennon laughed lightly, she tucked the blanket under Nick's chin admiring his features. It made her a little sad to realize how similar their son looked to Heath, it was as if she solely carried him for nine months and got not even a similar eye shape.
"Why do you seem sad? Aren't you happy this is all over now," Heath gestured down to her deflated belly that she hadn't realized had sunken.
"He just looks so much like you," Lennon shrugged, "I'm the one who carried him for nine months I just think it's not fair that he gets all your genes."
Heath laughed, he had to cover his mouth to control himself, "Len, darling, he's a perfect mixture of the both of us. Nothing to get worked up over, plus, who's to say looking like me is a bad thing?"
He winked at the cheeky comment, but Lennon couldn't help but roll her eyes.
"I don't want to talk about it anymore it's making me sad," she shook her head becoming overworked.
Emotions were high after birth, the nurse told Heath and Lennon she was going to be extremely overwhelmed. Even Maggie had made it clear that she wasn't able to stop crying for a week after the birth of her and Peter's second child. Though, Lennon couldn't recall how true that was.
