"Here," Daniel said handing Emily a mug of tea.
"Thank you," she whispered sitting up against the head board.
"How are you feeling?"
"Yeah, alright."
"You don't have to lie."
"Daniel I'm doing as best as I can. I'll tell you if I'm not alright."
"Okay," he said kissing her head.
"Where's Meg?"
"Downstairs, I wanted you to have some space."
"Daniel she's my daughter. I haven't seen her all day. I want to."
"Alright. I'll go get her," he smiled and got up.
Daniel walked out and down the stairs and then came up again with Meg on his hip.
"Hey baby girl," Emily smiled and patted the bed next to her.
"Mmnmnm," she babbled as Daniel sat her down beside Emily.
"How's my little girl?"
"I'm sorry Em," Daniel whispered.
"It's okay. I know you're just doing the best for me. But I'll tell you if I can't handle it."
"I'm just scared. I nearly lost you last time."
"And I know I wasn't mentally right then, but I'll tell you if I'm not feeling right."
"Okay, I love you."
"I love You too. Don't ever forget that."
"I won't. The doctor called."
"What for?"
"He wanted to book a follow up appointment...to make sure you didn't have an infection."
"When for?"
"Next week."
"When are you going back to work?"
"I've got as much time off as I want."
Emily nodded and watched as Meg sat on the bed and played with the sequins in the doona cover. Emily looked over her tiny face and how beautiful it was, which made her all the more determined to try again.
