Emily

If it wasn't for the large window that casted a blinding light into our motel room, I believe that Arvin and I would have stayed in our place longer, cuddling each other tightly.

The first thing my mind had thought about when I woke up and went to sleep were how soft his lips had been. His strange scent of honey and cigarettes consumed in my nose as I kissed him.

That kiss, will forever been memorable for how good it was, and because it was my first kiss.

When I woke up, I found myself laying on top of Arvin, his arms wrapped protectively around my waist.

I looked up at him, his hair covering some his eyes. A smile crossed my lips as I pushed the hair back, causing his eyes to slowly flutter open.

"Mornin' Arvin." I said quietly as he looked down at me, a small smile on his face.

"Mornin Emily." He muttered as I slid off of him, only for Arvin to pull me into a bed hug.

"Sleep well?" I asked. Arvin hummed, nodding as I felt his lips press against my forehead.

Although I wanted nothing more than to lay here until we died, I knew we had to go. Once we got to Indianapolis, we planned on staying a few nights before settling on moving up to Chicago and most likely crossing the border to Canada.

"Arvin I know you don't want to, but we gotta start gettin back on the road." I said as he grumbled, shaking his head.

"Darlin, do we have to?" Arvin said, not realizing what he had called me since he was still tired.

But I realized. And it brought a blush to my cheeks faster than anything ever had. But it also brought a smirk.

"Say that again?" I asked quietly as Arvin blinked at me, raising a brow.

"What? Darlin?" He said as I smiled, nodding slowly. I craned my neck up to his, our lips meeting as Arvin's hand planted itself on the small of my back.

I flipped a leg over his torso, my hands cupping his cheeks as I bent down, a small smile forming on Arvin's lips.

His hands trailed from my thighs to my hips, dragging my nightgown with them. Arvin then moved his hands up to the dip in my waist before he pulled me closer, our chests closing the gap.

I pulled away, kissing his cheek, then his jawline before he flipped me onto my back so he was on top, his hands trailing up and down my waist as he kissed my neck, a small moan escaping my lips.

"Arvin we need to go-" I said through short gasps of breath, my heart racing before he cut me off with a quick kiss.

"I know." He answered quietly into my ear, his hot breath sending a shiver up my spine. He kissed my cheek before sliding out of the bed, a small yet hungry look in his eyes.

I walked to the bathroom, changing into a pale yellow sundress, walking out to see Arvin slip on a grey shirt and then his jean jacket and hat.

"You ready to go?" He asked as I nodded, shoving my nightgown in my duffel bag, picking it up and then walking out with Arvin.

His hand quickly found mine before we got to the car, a blush crossing my cheeks as he looked away, hiding his smile.

We entered the car, a silence following it as we drove out of the parking lot and onto the road. I found myself once again resting my head on Arvin's shoulder, falling asleep as his hand rested on my knee, rubbing it with his thumb.

I woke up to the rattling of my car as Arvin pulled off the side of the road, grumbling in anguish as the cars hood started to envelope in smoke.

"What-?" I said, both of us getting out of the car.the sun had started to set, and as Arvin went to pull up the hood, he yanked his hand back, hissing in pain as the hood was heating up.

"Guess the old fucker couldn't handle so much driving." I said, crossing my arms as Arvin nodded, holding his hand. I walked over to him, gently taking his hand. It was already starting to turn red from the sudden heat.

"It'll be fine. Just will hurt for a bit." I said as he sighed through his nose.

"Guess we gotta walk now... next town ain't for another 10 miles." Arvin said with a frown as I sighed.

"Better get our things. Hide the money." I said as he nodded. We opened up the back seats of the car, shoving the money bags deep in our duffel bags, causing them to become slightly heavier.

I frowned at my car with a sad look. I had had it since I turned 16, and it saddened me that it just stopped working all of a sudden.

"We'll find a new one, darlin." Arvin said with a smile as I nodded. We both began our long trek to the next town. The long walk would take ages, so hopefully someone would stop and give us a ride.

And someone did. Well, a couple.

"You two love birds need a ride?" The woman said with a smile as the man looked me up and down. I got a bad feeling from him, but me and Arvin needed the ride badly.

"Yes ma'am." I answered as she gestured for us to hop in.

And instead of them dropping us off in the town, we all stopped at a lake. I turned to Arvin, whose face suddenly filled with terror, as if he was recalling a horrible memory.

"We love helping out as many people as we can." The man said as he turned to me, a weird smile on his face. Arvin's hand quickly gripped mine, and I squeezed it gently.

"Would you two like lunch?" The woman asked as Arvin and I nodded slowly. We all hopped out of the car, but I was the only one to notice the gun on the mans pants.

I shoulder bumped Arvin, who turned to notice it too.

"Any meat on your sandwich?" The woman asked as I nodded. She slapped some turkey on our sandwiches, handing them to us.

We ate in silence for a moment, both Arvin and I standing up as the man did. "Now. How about a little fun?" The man said as Arvin gave me a nervous look. I noticed his hands slowly reach behind him, where he kept both of our guns.

And that's when the man pulled out his own gun. I stood there, frozen in fear as the man chuckled. "Now you'll just listen carefully won't you?" He said as I just stared at the gun.

"No. I don't think we will." Arvin said with a cold look as he quickly handed me my gun, aiming his at the man.

The man went to shoot Arvin, but was too late, since he had already fired two shots at the man.

The woman screamed as she went to grab the gun from her husband. But I had beaten her to it. I aimed both guns at her, and it was like I could feel her heart racing.

And then a smirk spread across her face. She reached behind her, appearing to grab a gun she had, but I shot her square in the center of her throat before she could.

I dropped the mans gun, turning to Arvin, who didn't hesitate to grab my free hand, dragging me to their car.

"Told you we'd get one!" He said as I jumped into the passengers seat, my heart pounding out of my chest.

We quickly drove away from the scene, my hands violently shaking.

"I did it... I just killed another person." I said as I turned to Arvin. But once again, I didn't feel bad.

"You did it to protect yourself, Emily. It's okay." He said, placing a hand on my knee.

And at this moment, I was fully committed to anything I had to do that was nothing more than sinful.
