My eyes fluttered open as I realized it was now dark. I looked around confused for a moment before I realized we were still in Washington, a frown on my face.
"We almost there, Arvin?" I asked, turning to him. He looked tired, his eyes dropping as he tried to stay awake.
"Y-Yeah... almost.." he said before trailing off. My eyes widened as he quickly passed out, a silent Yelp escaping my throat. I shook him violently as he started to veer off the road, a few cars passing us.
"Arvin wake up!" I yelled as he shot his eyes open, both hands now gripping the steering wheel as he swerved to fast.
And then the car was rolling several times. A scream escaped my throat as I hit my head on the window, the force cracking it slightly as Arvin hit his head on the steering wheel, a quick honk leaving it.
"Arvin!" I yelled as I reached for his hand. He gripped it as we continued to roll, landing upside down.
My head and nose were bleeding when I opened my eyes, my arm had been cut by the shattered glass and now was slightly bleeding.
I didn't think my heart could beat so fast out of terror. I looked around as my hair fell around me, tears falling upside down as I panicked, hitting the top of the car as I screamed for help.
I noticed two hands lazily hanging, and then I turned to Arvin, fear on my face as I saw his eyes were closed. I couldn't even tell if he was breathing.
"Arvin? Arvin wake up!" I yelled through sobs as I shoved him, but he didn't move.
"Somebody help me please! Anybody help him!" I cried out, but no one came. I looked up at my seatbelt, quickly undoing it, falling on my back.
I shot up onto my knees, disregarding the pain the shattered glass gave me as I embedded them onto my knees as I got out of the car through the broken window, limping over to the drivers side.
"Please don't be dead, baby... God please don't take him from me..." I prayed as I cried, unlatching Arvin's seatbelt as I dragged him out through the window.
I fell backwards as his top off laid on my lap. I removed a strand of hair from my face as I looked down at Arvin with blurry eyes.
"Arvin? Please... Please wake up..." I whispered, my voice cracking at some parts so it made it nearly silent for anyone to understand what I said.
I looked down at his chest, slowly placing a bloody hand over his heart to feel if it was bleeding. I squinted my eyes tightly, sobbing and screaming.
I rested my forehead on Arvin's, not able to feeling his hot breath hit my cheek...
Because he was dead.
"Why did you do this..." I mumbled to God, a pained scream escaping my throat as I started to apologize for everything I had done wrong.
I looked up and over, a my eyes widened as I saw the border to Canada, which was closed off.
"No..." I said quietly as I looked down at Arvin. My eyes widened in fear as only a skeleton with rotting flesh was in my hands.
I screamed, throwing it off of me as my legs retracted to my chest. I grabbed my hair, staring down as I squinted my eyes tightly.
"It's a dream... it's just a dream..." I said to myself as I slammed my body back, waking up with a jolt.
I jerked my head in the direction of Arvin, who was wide awake and alive, my hand hitting my chest as I sighed in relief.
"Thank god..." I mumbled quietly as Arvin turned to me, raising a brow.
"Bad dream?" He asked as I let out a shaking breath, nodding.
"The worst." I answered as he sighed through his nose, taking his hand in mine.
"Don't worry... it was just a dream darlin." He said with quick smile before turning back to the road. I smiled, nodding.
But that smile quickly faded, because that dream had felt to real. Like I had actually lived it. Hopefully it would be nothing more than that. Just a silly, terrifying nightmare.
I looked out the window of the passengers side as we drove up a steep hill, the smile returned but barely.
And then, the most amazing thing to ever happen, happened.
"Emily." Arvin said with the biggest grin on his face. I turned to him before my eyes caught site of what he was grinning about.
And then I too, grinned.
"We made it!" I screamed happily as Arvin laughed with joy.
The Canadian border. (Is that what you call it??)
We had made it to the border.
We were going to be free.
I quickly yanked open my bag, taking out our passports as Arvin rolled up to the toll, a smile on his face as the lady bent down to see us, an unamused look on her face.
"Passports, license." She said blandly as I practically chucked the passports to her while Arvin handed her his license.
The woman looked it over, then stopped at his license. A fearful look crossed her face.
Shit.
We're fucked. This is it. We're going to jail forever. I'll be separated from Arvin. We'll never see each other again. We-
"Have fun in Canada." The woman said quickly as Arvin's eyes, which had also shown fear and nervousness, widened before his smile returned.
The lady handed us our papers, Arvin quickly rolled up the window and sped off.
After a moment of silence, we both screamed with joy and excitement at the same time, the biggest smile I had ever had on my face showing up.
We were free. The States law couldn't cause us.
I looked over at the side of the road, the biggest "Welcome to Canada" sign hanging in the air.
The smile stayed on my face as Arvin looked at me, a whisper escaping him.
"Welcome to Canada."
