For the next few days, we just drove around, sleeping in cheap motels for the most part. Arvin and I have grown closer by a lot, a smile always on our faces when we looked at one another.
Arvin and I chose to try and make it to Indianapolis by tomorrow night. We got ourselves a nice hotel room, this time with two beds.
The bathroom was quite large. It had a separate bathtub and shower, but nothing too fancy.
I set my bag on my bed, taking a seat on the couch that was in the suite we booked. A sigh of relaxation escaped my throat as Arvin glanced over at me with a look I couldn't identify, since his hat hid some of his face, before turning his attention back to the book in his hands.
"'Alice in Wonderland.' Haven't read that book in ages."I said as Arvin looked up from his book, that same look I couldn't identify in his eyes.
"Yeah... Looked interesting on your shelf." He said with an awkward chuckle as I raised a brow.
"You took that from my house? Didn't know I still had that book." I said as Arvin shrugged, folding the corner of a page neatly before closing it.
"Well. It's getting late. How about dinner?" Arvin suggested as I rolled my head back onto the couch, a smile on my face.
"Sounds lovely." I answered, standing up and following Arvin out the door.
As we began walking down the hall, I stopped, a familiar smell crossing over my nose. My eyes lit up with excitement as I followed where the scent became stronger, leading me to an indoor pool.
"Arvin look! They have a pool!" I said with as much glee as a child. I heard Arvin chuckle before he sighed.
"Come on Emily, the dining room is closing soon and I'm hungry! The pool will still be open when we are done eating." Arvin said as I poured before nodding again, following Arvin to the dining hall.
There wasn't a living soul in the room, most of the food had been eaten but there was still plenty for me and Arvin.
The chicken wasn't the best, but the mashed potatoes were astounding. I probably ended up having a few spoonfuls of the potatoes before I was full.
After we had finished eating, I practically chucked my dish into the sink, grabbing Arvin's hand and dragging him to the pool. I could hear his faint struggles as he tried to keep up, stumbling a few times before laughing quietly.
"You're gonna throw me to the ground, Emily!" Arvin said as I merely laughed, throwing the pool doors open.
Much like the dining hall, no one was here in the pool. I looked around, spotting a very small shop for swimsuits. I ended up buying a two piece, and Arvin just bought normal swim trunks.
I changed faster than I ever thought I could, sprinting and diving into the pool. My head popped out of the water in time to see Arvin jump in next to me, my laughter echoing in the room.
The only light that was around was the light in the pool, other than that, it was dark.
Arvin popped his head out from under the surface, flipping his hair out of his face. A wide smile spread across his lips as I swam under, going towards a spot where I could stand.
Arvin followed after me, so now we were both standing on the shallow end of the pool. And for the first time, I noticed how tall he was compared to me. But not by much.
He had to be no more than 5'8 while I stood at a good height of 5'4. I walked over to the stairs, sitting down on the top one as Arvin wiped away the water on his face as best he could, walking over to me.
He stopped right at the stairs as I looked around, the only noise being heard be the rushing water and our breathing. He sat down next to me, our arms centimeters apart from touching one another.
"Nice, isn't it? I can't remember the last time I had been in a pool." I said with a smile before my eyes barely widened.
I hadn't even noticed until now how muscular Arvin actually was. I quickly averted my eyes before he caught me staring.
"I don't think I've ever even been in a pool." Arvin said as I chuckled.
"Well, they're better than a lake." I joked, getting a small laugh from Arvin. I sat up straighter as he stepped.
"There are a lot of things better than a lake." Arvin said as I looked at him, raising a brow.
"What could those things be then, Arvin?" I said as he looked at me, a strange look in his eyes.
"Well... oceans, for one. Then there is the pool. And..." he paused for a moment, his eyes barely glimpsing down at my lips.
"And you." He whispered as I felt my heart skip a beat. His eyes met mine again, and I watched as he slowly put his hand to the back of my neck, my hand raising to wrap around his wrist as he pulled me closer, our eyes fluttering shut.
Our lips barely even grazed before the lights flickered on, our faces burning red as they snapped to the attention of a security worker flashing his light at us.
"The pool is closed! Go back to your hotel room!" He grumbled as me and Arvin pushed each other away. We sat up quickly and awkwardly, rushing to grab our clothes, still dripping wet as we bolted to our hotel room.
I slammed the door shut, resting my back against it as my chest rose and fell quickly. Arvin and I laughed nervously for a moment before we dropped our things. We stood still for a moment before Arvin looked at me.
"I um... I'm going to take a shower." I said as he nodded. Arvin walked over to his bed, pulling out some night clothes as I shut the bathroom door, my heart racing.
I ran a hand through my knotted hair as I turned the shower on, slipping out of the swimsuit and hanging it up before stepping into the shower.
I only stayed in it for less than 2 minutes, washing my hair quickly as then stepping out, drying myself off and putting a nightgown on.
I walked out of the bathroom to see Arvin combing his hair through. He set the comb down, turning to look at me with a blush on his face.
He walked over to his bed as I did mine, both of us on the same side. We sat down, looking at one another with a look that I'm sure we had never given anyone before.
"It's um... it's getting late." I said as I shut off my lamp, slithering under the covers. Arvin cleared his throat, nodding as he did the same.
"G-Goodnight Emily." Arvin stuttered.
"Goodnight Arvin."
