I rested my elbow on the door as I propped my head up, one hand on the steering wheel as the faint music played. (Use any song if you'd like)
I looked over at Arvin, who was passed out, his head rested on the window. I smiled warmly before I turned back to the road. The smile stayed on my face as my thoughts wandered aimlessly until we hit Minnesota.
Now, we could have easily crossed the border to a Canada, but Arvin wants to leave near the west coast, by the Pacific Ocean. So we would travel to Washington state, and then cross into Canada.
Shocking that this trip has taken us two months, 17 rooms, and too many murders.
But they were all self defense. So does that make up for it? Of course it doesn't. I still took a life.
But that's far behind us now. When we get to Canada, me and Arvin are going to go to college, maybe, and then get well paying jobs.
And then we can buy a house if we haven't already, and start a family.
So that night, me and Arvin didn't stay in a motel. We wanted to get to Washington as fast as we could.
We hit that weird part between Minnesota and Washington, which meant we were in Idaho. This had to be the most traveling I've done in my 18 years of-
"HOLY SHIT." I said, swerving off the road, jolting Arvin awake.
"WOAH!" Arvin yelled, grabbing the dashboard like it'd help him. I slammed on the brakes, my eyes wide with realization as I turned to Arvin.
"MY BIRTHDAY WAS LAST WEEK ARVIN. IM 19." I said as Arvin rubbed his eyes, trying to process what I just told him.
His birthday was two weeks ago, and we completely missed both of them. "Holy shit we're 19, Emily." He said as I nodded, shock on my face.
"And we missed it. I want to celebrate a late birthday!" I said as I began to drive again, driving off the highway in search of a restaurant.
"IHOP!" Arvin yelled in excitement as he pointed at the restaurant. I smiled, driving into the parking lot. We parked, hopping out of the car and walking in.
"Table for two?" The waitress said as she eyes Arvin, and then gave me a weird look. I raised my brow for a moment before I smiled coldly, nodding.
She brought us to a booth, handing us two menus. We ordered our drinks before our food, as I hadn't decided yet.
The waitress came back, her hair now in a ponytail as we ordered our birthday pancakes. They were there within 20 minutes, the smell of cake batter consuming my senses as I sighed with glee, quickly eating the pancakes, which were amazing.
Arvin and I ended up laughing over the fact we missed our birthdays, and I got to find out that he used to go to IHop with his mom and dad before they passed.
I had been to IHop so many times when I was younger, before my adoptive mother got in an accident that rendered her paralyzed.
The waitress came back with a check, which Arvin paid for as I got up, excusing myself to use the restroom.
After washing my hands, I walked back out, stopping to see the waitress, making Arvin extremely uncomfortable by leaning towards her, trying to seduce him.
I glared at her, clenching my fists as I stalked forward, ready to throw a punch.
Arvin leaned backwards as she leaned forwards, about to force him to kiss her. Before she had the chance, I grabbed her ponytail, yanking her head back so she bent backwards, head to the sky.
I smiled down at her with a wicked look before I punched her square in the lips, letting go of her ponytail as she fell to the ground, wailing.
"You god damned whore!" I yelled as I spit near her, scowling with anger. "Didn't your parents teach you not to mess with another woman's man?" I said as I pressed my foot into her side, shoving her away as she rolled.
Arvin shot up quickly, clearly traumatized by what the waitress tried to do, as if no one had ever forced themselves onto him before.
He grabbed my arms, ushering for me to get out of here quickly. I continued to glare at the woman until I couldn't see her anymore, sliding into the passengers seat of the car.
"That bitch had what was coming to her!" I scowled as Arvin looked over at me. He smiled nervously, placing a hand on my cheek and rubbed his thumb across my cheek. I smiled at him as he leaned forward, giving me a short kiss.
"Darlin before we get to Washington I want to tell you somethin..." Arvin said with a smile as I looked into his eyes, nodding.
"I love you, Emily." He said with a smile as I felt myself tear up for some reason, a smile also on my face as he held my cheeks in his hands. I held his wrists in mine as I nodded.
"I love you too, Arvin."
