Izuku sat there, tears streaming down his face.
He had climbed up onto a rooftop, just watching people as the walked by below him, blissfully ignorant of the enormous amounts of pain a human could go through.
He stiffened as he felt a man sit down next to him.
"Hey. Mind if I take a seat?" Asked the stranger.
Izuku didn't even look up while responding, opting to swinging his legs back and forth over the ledge where he sat.
"Feel free. It's not like I can stop you."
The man chuckled at this.
"So what's got you so down in the dumps?"
"Is it that obvious?" The boy asked, solemnly.
"Well you sound just like the way I did a few years back. I know that tone anywhere. So, what's up?"
Izuku contemplated on whether or not he should talk to this strange man.
Finally deciding that he had nothing left to lose, he answered."Well it's been a rough 48 hours. Just had my idol become humanized upon meeting him and then had him tell me I can't pursue my dream. My friend or... actually I guess he's more like a bully now," he sighed. "was attacked by a villain and I couldn't really do much to help him. My dad hurt me and my mom yelled at me earlier today- er... yesterday. I snuck out of the house a couple hours ago. I then got mugged but was saved by a vigilante. He broke my entire world view with a simple conversation and then proceeded to take a bullet for me. He died in my arms and now I'm here."
The man whistled.
"Alrighty then. I believe that you have won the award for worst 48 hours ever."
The boy chuckled. "Yeah."
"So what exactly did this vigilante tell you that altered your whole world view?"
"He told me that I can be a hero."
The man wore a puzzled expression.
"Is that not possible for you? I mean it doesn't matter if your quirk is weak or not, every quirk has the ability to somehow be used in combat. Your quirk doesn't determine if you're a good hero. Its just whether or not you make the most out of what you got."
"But what if you don't have a quirk? What if all you've ever wanted to do was help people but was told that you were unable to your entire life?"
The man fell silent at this, pondering this statement.
"So your quirkless huh?"
"Yup."
"I don't see how that matters. Plenty of pro's fight quirkless like Eraserhead for example. He has that weird scarf thing going for him. Though I have to say, that thing looks like it could use a good wash."
The boy let out a small laugh at this.
"Heck I even fight quirkless and I have made it pretty far in the rankings. So why shouldn't you become a hero? You got the morals kid. In my book that makes you a hero already."
The man patted him on the back.
The sun rose at that exact moment. Everything was washed in golden light.
'Yeah. Everything will be ok. I finally got two people who think that I'm capable. Besides, today was a new day, a step towards the future. As long as l have today, I have the chance to make amends and make sure that the quirkless vigilante's sacrifice wasn't in vain.'
It's his fault that the world had lost a great hero. The least he could do was give it another.
That day the world gained another warrior in its constant fight against evil.
