~~~After class~~~
"Hey green bean."
'Green bean?!'
"Y-Yes sir?"
"You know, you can take lessons here if you want instead of looking in the window every day."
"O-Oh. Sorry about that sir."
The man just waved his hand at the boy's apology.
"You're fine, but seriously, you got the right build for it."
"W-what? I'm afraid I don't know what your talking about sir. I'm a noodle!"
"I can see you got some muscle there. Anyways, the choice is yours. What's the harm in trying it? Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Am I right?"
"T-True but I don't think I can pay for classes."
No way could he tell his mom about this and ask her for money. She would kill him!
"Tell you what. How about you do some odd jobs around the dojo and we call it even yeah?"
"Thank you very much sir!"
"But," said the man. "before you do any of that, tell me, why do you want to learn karate?"
He froze at this question. How the heck he supposed to answer?!
'Oh you know, I just want to become a hero because it's my fault one of them f*cking died!'
He mentally slapped a hand over his mouth.
'Who was that?!' He thought to himself. Those thoughts didn't sound like him at all!
The teacher looked at his student concerned.
'He's been quiet for a while now. Is he... ok?'
"Kid?"
The boy jolted at the feeling of the man's hand on his shoulder.
"Eep! Sorry about that sir! To answer your question..." he chewed his lip and selectively chose parts of the truth to share.
"Because of something I did a lot of innocent people are getting hurt. The only way that I can atone is by defending the defenseless."
The violet eyed man nodded at this statement.
"A vey noble reason for choosing this path. Karate is used to defend and protect. You have the perfect mind set for this."
The boy fidgeted with his hands like there was something he wanted to ask.
The teacher raised an eyebrow.
"If you have a question shoot."
"Sir why would you teach me?" Blurted out the boy.
"Well kid, I could tell that someone isn't treating you right. It's all in your posture. People who have a tendency to slouch do that to protect their heart. I learned that in yoga."
The emerald boy sweat dropped at this.
"Besides, karate isn't something that only a few select people can know. Everyone deserves the right to be able to defend them selves."
"Thank you very much!" Said Izuku, bowing.
"It's no problem kid. Now I'm gonna need your guardians to sign this waver ok? And also would you mind telling me your quirk? It's just standard procedure that I know so that just in case if something might trigger it we can avoid that and keep people from possibly getting injured by it."
"Oh um... my quirk? It's well... it's nothing physical so we don't have to worry about it. It's harmless." Said the emerald boy as he took the sheet of paper.
"Kid. Even the most mundane quirk can be dangerous. Say like... summoning puddles for instance. Someone could slip on it. If it's mental it could mess with someone's head and they could hurt someone if they're not focused."
"Well..." he sighed, bracing himself to get turned down. "The truth sir... is that I'm quirkless."
The man just let out a sigh of relief.
"Well that makes things easier."
"Wait your not going to throw me out?"
"Why would I? This is an anti quirk discrimination establishment. A safe space, if you will, for everyone. So no, I'm not going to throw you out for something as stupid as genetics."
The boy teared up.
"Hey?! Are you ok?! Was it something that I said?!"
"No it's just... this is the first place I've ever been to that was like this."
"Well kid, get used to it.
"Really? Thank you very much sir!"
"You can drop the sir. Just call me Sensei. And you are...?"
"Ah!" His face turned red with embarrassment. How could he have forgotten to introduce himself?
"My name is Midoriya Izuku, but everyone calls me Deku."
"Huh, I guess you really are the green one." He said with a chuckle. "What would you prefer to be called?"
'Mom doesn't know about the nickname Kacchan gave me. It'd be safer to go by that.' He thought to himself.
"Deku."
"See you tomorrow Deku."
"Goodbye Sensei! Once again, thank you!" He called out as he headed home.
