Months had passed since their week-long anniversary vacation, and even more time had passed since their engagement. Hanta started spending more time working and building his popularity among the citizens, which Korei was entirely supportive of. In fact, while he was building his career, she was building hers as well. She got a second job, which took a lot of her time up, and she still had college work that needed to get done as well. It had the couple on a really tight schedule.
It seemed that every time they had some alone time, either Hanta got called in or Korei got called in. There for a bit, the two felt sort of...hopeless? Almost as if there wasn't a reason for them to be together if things weren't working out in their favor. Sure, they loved each other, but they barely got to see each other. They were in a long-distance relationship and they slept in the same bed! Well...most of the time, anyway. Fights were more frequent as frustration started building. There was never enough time to relieve stress in their favorite way, and if there was...one of them wasn't in the mood. That's when they started seeking out satisfaction from other people.
"So, how was your night?" Shinsou asked as he sat across from the green-haired girl. Their meetings weren't unusual, and Hanta knew about them. Was he happy about them? He didn't let on like he wasn't. "Did you finish that paper you were working on?"
"Yeah, I finished it, " Korei hummed, nodding her head. "And my night was just like the others, ya know? I just...I ate dinner, got a shower, and uh...watched some TV, " she shrugged, drumming her fingers on the table. Shinsou raised an eyebrow at her, still so shocked that she had started to watch TV. A small smile claimed his lips as he let out a low 'hmph' of amusement. Memories were his best friend.
"Do you still talk during them? The movies and everything?" He asked with a gentle smirk on his thin lips. Korei sighed, looking down at her hands. She laid them flat against the surface of the table, her thoughts fluttering back to her boring past time.
"I would, but Hanta's never home so I have no-one to talk to, " she mumbled out, reaching up to brush some hair behind her ear. "I hate watching movies, I find no joy in them. I wish that Hanta would be able to come home early. I get it, he's a hero now and that requires more attention than the whole sidekick thing-"
"I'm a hero too, " Shinsou shrugged, cutting her off. His hot chocolate wasn't even hot anymore and after noticing it, he pushed it aside. Leaning forward, he propped his elbow up on the table and let his chin rest against his open palm. Those sleepless indigo eyes that villains cowered from were soft as they took in Korei's gentle features. She looked exactly the same as when they were in high school. She still looked so good. "I'm a hero too and I'm here with you. I'm almost always here with you."
"Stop it, " she mumbled out, her gaze faltering. With her shoulders slumped forward, she stared down at the table. Her freshly painted black nails drew odd shapes into the polished wood. "I-i can't let you talk like that. I know Hanta's job is important and I know that he cares-"
"I'm not saying that he doesn't care about you, Korei. I'm just letting you know that you're important, " he pushed the cold hot chocolate, chocolate milk, in her direction. Korei didn't take it, her mind jumping almost immediately to Hanta. He didn't care if she used animal products, she just refrained from it because she knew that he didn't support it. Her hand twitched, tempted to take the drink from the purple-haired male. A little sip wouldn't hurt, right? "Um, how's the whole internship thing? Have they called you back yet? I know you did the interview the other day."
"Yeah, they did call me, " she perked up, her hands flying to the edge of her seat. Shinsou frowned when he noticed that she hadn't accepted his drink, but Korei shrugged it off as him being his usual moody self. "I actually got the internship. I'm supposed to go in and get my credentials all sorted out, ya know?" She smiled, her glossy lips catching the gleam of sunlight that filtered in as the clouds moved. "I just got the call this morning. I haven't been able to tell Hanta about it. He was already at work when I woke up. You're...um...you're the first person to know."
"Wow, I feel special now, " Shinsou smiled and Korei looked up at him. Her cheeks tinted with a soft shade of pink and she was reminded of that night, a year and a half ago. Guilt consumed her when she realized what she was doing and she quickly shot up from her seat. Shinsou stared at her, his mouth slightly agape. "Was it something I said?"
"N-no, I just, uh, I need to get that stuff done. I just remembered that I needed to have it all done before um, like, uh...four-thirty? Yeah, uh, t-text me later? Or...whatever, " she blubbered out, fishing some money out of her pocket. She placed it on the table and then bowed respectfully. "Have a good rest of your day, Shinsou-san!" And with that, she rushed out of the small cafe. Once she was out on the busy sidewalk, she tugged her phone out of her pocket and tried calling Hanta. Her head was up-turned to the buildings as she walked, dodging the other people walking past her. "H-hey babe, um, I was just calling to let you know that I love you. Call me back whenever you get the time. I'll see you at home. Love you!" She hung up after leaving the message, another deep sigh leaving her lips. She continued walking until she heard Shinsou calling out for her. Turning around, she saw him waving at her.
"Wait! I didn't mean to say anything that upset you!" He exclaimed and she just smiled and waved it off. Shinsou stopped in front of her, dropping his hand down onto her shoulder. "I'm sorry if it seemed like I was coming on to you in any type of way. I mean, I kind of am but at the same time, I know you love Sero. I don't like the way that he treats you but if you love him then you love him. Just...don't stay with him if he's treating you the way that I did."
"Sh-shinsou, " she stuttered out, her stomach erupting with butterflies as she continued to look up into his eyes. It wasn't that she was starting to like him or that she loved Hanta any less. She hated the fact that she was feeling like that, but she hadn't received any attention from her fiance and she felt so...depraved. "P-please leave me alone," she whispered, tears forming in her eyes as she brushed his hand off of her shoulder. "I'm not mad at you and I don't hate you, but I can't trust myself around you right now. Please, just...just let me go."
"I-i, " his voice faded off as he watched her turn and walk away. Korei couldn't believe that she even thought about being with someone else. What would Hanta think? What would he say? Had he done the same thing? No, he definitely didn't. He loved Korei with everything in him, he wouldn't do anything to hurt her. She couldn't even picture him dreaming about being with someone else.
There was always the thought at the beginning of their relationship that they'd probably have a threesome but that could never happen. Hanta only wanted to be with Korei and she only wanted to be with him. Just as she reassured herself with that thought, her phone beeped with a notification. Thinking it was a message from Hanta, she tugged her phone out and checked it. That's when everything stopped.
