We're still at my apartment's living room and Jennie's still leaning back. At this point I think she fell asleep.
"Eomma" Ella whispers making me look at her "she's sleeping isn't she?" She nod her head towards Jennie making me nod
"Let's just eat and let her sleep" Ella immediately grab the bowl of rice and put some dumplings on it while I look towards Jennie who's sitting right beside me. I tried nudging her leg with mine lightly to see if she's asleep. She didn't move so I just let her sleep there.
We mostly eat in silence not wanting to wake Jennie up but how stupid I am to not put my phone on silent earlier. Jennie flinched when she heard my phone ring. I turn to look at Jennie since she's still leaning back but I know that the sound of my phone woke her up
"Answer it" she said while she still has the towel covering her eyes. I grab my phone and saw that my boss from the company is calling
"Lisa" he says once I answered "I was just gonna ask for the copy of your last shoot"
"Okay I'll send it to you later" I said while Ella's looking and listening and probably Jennie too
"Oh by the way, have you met Mingyu?"
"Mingyu? The other guy? Yes, we've met earlier at work" I said while switching my eyes from Ella and Jennie
"What do you think? He's a nice guy, yeah?"
"He seems nice. He told me that he'll help with editing and anything since he's my assistant photographer. " Jennie then starts removing the towel from her eyes as she put it back on the bowl
"He's a really hard working man. I hope you guys can get along well and go hang out just to be more comfortable with one another"
"We will, we'll just have breakfast together tomorrow morning" he said a couple more things before hanging up
"Eomma" Ella calls me out and I saw how Jennie pause a bit hearing that Ella still address me like that "can I sleep here?"
"You should ask your mom first" I said looking at Jennie
"I told Kang that we'll be having dinner honey, we need to go back after this okay?" She said using a soft voice when it comes to Ella
"What about tomorrow mommy?"
"I'll talk to him about it" she said flashing a smile towards Ella
"We'll go now" Jennie said not even touching her food
"You didn't even eat" I said
"I'm not hungry" I sigh out before standing up
"Oh wait" I said as I remember something, I leave them both there to go straight to my bedroom and grab the bags from Thailand. I walk back towards the living room which makes both Jennie and Ella turn to look at me "uh.. these" I raised the bags and give them the one on my right hand first "this one are all gifts from Jisoo, Seulgi and Rosie"
"Rosie? The pretty woman you have a crush on?" Ella asks making me choke on my own spit as I start coughing loudly.
"Used to... Used to have a crush on but not anymore" I said making Ella chuckle while Jennie avert her gaze away from me. Since Jennie turn her head away I just place the bag right beside her so she can still bring it home "this one... My mom bought it for you two before I left Thailand" I said which catches Jennie's attention as she pauses again but this time she just stare at the table in front of her not knowing what to do
"Grandma bought that for me?" Ella ask breaking the silence as she reach out for her present so I pass it to her instead. I sit back down while still looking at Jennie who's not moving
"How long do you work everyday?" I ask while Ella's busy with her gift
"We have to leave" she repeated
"No" I said making her look up at me "you can't avoid me your whole life Jennie. I know you were mad at me... You're still mad clearly but like I said, if you don't want me to get in the way of your married life don't worry, I won't. I'm just worried that you're not taking care of yourself" I said honestly seeing how tired she looks
"I'm perfectly fine" she said but I don't buy that
"Your name is not Jennie" I said which confuses her "oh.. I thought we have to state a lie" she lower her eyes even more as she stays quiet "I know I'm not in the position to say this but, take care of yourself. Sleep a lot, don't skip your meals, rest as much as you can. I sound like a mom but I'm just saying... You have to take care of yourself if you want to raise this little girl right here" I said nodding towards Ella " I know you have Kang but if it'll still lessen your responsibility towards this young lady, you can tell me. I can take her to school or whatsoever, just for you to take a lot more rest."
"I'm a grown woman Lisa. I know how to take care of myself" she said with that cold tone again
"You know it for sure, you're a doctor but you also need to do it rather than just bringing the knowledge with you" she sigh out heavily and I just know that she wants to argue more but she's just too tired to even continue "if you need to talk, I'm just here"
"That's the last thing I wanted to do" she said
"Well if you don't want to talk, then let's just stand next to each other if it will somehow lessen your burden"
"what made you think that being around you will lessen my burden?" I chuckle lightly at her statement
"I'm just saying. I am... was still your friend before we.. you know" She stays silent which makes me turn to look at her "I know you way too well Jennie, I do know that people change but not completely. 5 years was still shorter than the years we spent together" Silence. Again. Not even a chuckle or a sigh just a complete silence from her.
"We'll go now" that's the only thing she said before she stand up. She didn't gave me a single glance neither did she said goodbye. She walk out so Ella quickly wave at me before running out. My eyes traveled towards the part of the couch where Jennie sat and I saw the bags of gifts from our friends. Before I can even pick it up and run after them, Ella went back and grab the bags
"mommy forgot" she said smiling at me" eomma, why didn't you came when i sent the letter to you?"
"what letter?"
"mommy wrote a letter to you before she decided to get married but i think she just wrote it without the thought of sending it to you so I brought it to school that day and asked my teacher for a favor. She did send it but why didn't you come?"
"I haven't received any letter "
