Funny how quickly time flies. It's already Friday, which means that it's been a week since I started "dating" Donghyuck, and I've healed to the point that I almost forgot that Mark's in my Professional Writing class. Rather than hurt, I'm starting to feel indifferent when I see him, which is a good sign.
As Professor Jeon wraps up the class, I get a text from the Justice groupchat, reminding us of the MT tomorrow. Nearly a miracle, Donghyuck and I managed to settle on a single convenient plan for the MT. Due to time and budget constraints, we planned for a one-day event located here on campus that has a fair share of the activities I had in mind as well as the activities that he thought of too. Truthfully, planning the MT is no big deal and is the easiest task for head planner, but having to share that position with Donghyuck turns it into a lot more work than necessary.
"See, I know you two can work together!" Jungwoo had shown us his satisfaction and for the first time since I've known him, Donghyuck had given me a genuine smile. It kind of made my heart flutter.
Speaking of him, I have a little mission of my own. I had requested Donghyuck to pick me up after class under the pretense that I want Mark to see, but what I'm hiding under my sleeve is that I'm hoping to corner the two of them into telling me what their beef is. My curiosity has far exceeded my unwillingness to even look at Mark.
Once we're dismissed, I quickly pack up my things and leave the room before Mark does. According to plan, Donghyuck's right outside the door on his phone, wearing a cap that shadows his face. He looks up at me and holds his hand out, a gesture that I now understand. With his hand in mine, I wait for Mark to step out to beckon him over. Not bothering to ask if he's busy, I tell him that I have to talk to him.
"What's this about?" Donghyuck whispers in my ear, but I ignore him. I wait for the swarm of students to gradually disappear to start talking. Donghyuck's looking at me alarmed, while Mark seems confused and almost scared.
"Tell me how you know each other. And Chaeyoung," I demand. "And don't even try lying to me."
A pause of silence. Donghyuck sighs, then questions Mark in a dry tone, "Do you want to tell her or should I tell her?"
Mark hesitates, sighing. "Go ahead. I think she should hear it from you."
"Right," Donghyuck turns to me. I feel him squeeze my hand and I'm not sure if that's part of the acting. "Chaeyoung's my ex-girlfriend. I dated her last year for a couple months."
"And?"
"Then, I walked in on her and Mark here, kissing on her couch. We broke up. That's it."
Holy shit. "When... when did that happen?"
"It was before we started dating," Mark quickly intervenes.
"June sixth," Donghyuck mumbles. "I got cheated on on my fucking birthday."
Wait a minute. Shit. No way. No, no, no.
