Three weeks had passed with the kids still in the house, they left on the weekend to go play in the park and on those days Clarke stood near the window, watching for them to appear at the gate, she feared someday, they'd go and never come back, it was a possibility that kept her awake at night

Her nightmares alternated between the accident and the kids disappearing and every night she'd wake up and go check if they were sleeping in their bedrooms and everytime, Madi would be sleeping in her brother's room instead of being in her own bed.

They had finally ordered the beds and Clarke promised that someday, when she finally got over herself she'd take them to buy more furniture for their bedrooms.

Somedays were hard and she couldn't bare to see the kids, and other days she felt like the day didn't have enough hours on it, as she just wanted to stare at them, all day, watching them laughing around and playing.

They'd changed since they first came here. Their faces looked clean and full, they turned Madi into a brunette and Aden got a haircut.

Clarke had sent him to a hair salon, he had decided to go on his own and he came back late, Clarke had been pacing that day, worried sick and that was the first time she yelled at him, she had never been so afraid, she couldn't imagine a life without the kids, if they left she wouldn't survive.

"Clarke!!" Madi's squeaky voice came from the bathroom.

"Yeah?" She yelled back from her laptop.

"The toilet paper is finished!" She huffed and groaned as she got up and walked to the cupboard, taking out a roll of toilet paper she walked to the bathroom, pushed open the door and immediately regretted it.

"Eww, Madi!" She pressed her fingers on the bridge of her nose and handed the giggling girl the paper and hurriedly got out, letting out a long breath and inhaled the fresh air.

If Aden were around he would have delivered the toilet paper, but he had gone out of with his friends, Clarke had set a time he had to be back by, not even a minute later than 6pm.

She had wanted to call Abby and tell her about the kids, but she had failed all ten times she had tried to send a text message, but tomorrow was Madi's birthday, she had been singing the same song being her birthday for the past week.

Aden had told Clarke that she had never celebrated her birthday, not really, the only thing they did on each of their birthdays was buy cream buns and that was that, but Aden had asked if they could buy her a cake, she had never had one, "Not ever?" Clarke had asked, shocked and Aden simply nodded.

Clarke woke up not feeling great, she had promised Madi she'd go out today, in five years she'd never gone out and she was going to do it but the thought of it made her sick.

Last night wasn't good, she had nightmares, she couldn't sleep and her mind had been racing, out of control and she needed some control and she downed two pills and a glass of Vodka, and today she was paying the price.

Her door was thrown open and Madi threw herself on the bed, "It's my birthday today." The girl jumped on the bed. Aden walked in after her.

"I'm sorry," He whispered.

"Can you take her?" Clarke said, throwing the covers over her head and praying for more sleep, she heard Aden tell Madi not to be too excited, that she could change her mind about doing something special for her birthday and the girl suddenly went quiet.

"But-" She heard Madi say.

"She's not our mother, Madi. It's just us two now, just as it always has been, quit sulking."
