The kids were sleeping on the couch, the bedrooms didn't have any beds, only one room in the whole house had a bed, Clarke and Lexa had just bought the house when the accident happened.
Last night Clarke had promised to buy beds, so they wouldn't have to sleep on the couch, but they seemed to be fine with even sleeping on the floor.
Clarke checked the time and it was past eleven, she woke up and went to check on the kids, it wasn't easy having to think about someone other than herself, she had stopped caring about anything and everyone but these kids that she hadn't even known for 48 hours had somehow made her care about them.
It wasn't the big kind of caring, but the warmth in her chest wasn't like other times, it was a need to see them, to watch them, last night she had woken up and stared at them as they slept, hours ticked by and her eyes wouldn't move from them.
"Hello, Clarke. " Lex said, handing her a coffee mug, Clarke welcomed it and took a sip, the last time she had coffee, she couldn't even remember, but knew it had been a long time and it felt good, refreshing.
She sat down on the couch and a plate of food was placed in front of her, she took a bite from the eggs. The kids watching her intently.
"How are they," Lex asked, shifting to sit on the edge of the sofa, they had too much salt, but she knew she couldn't crush their spirits, they had taken time to make her breakfast, which felt oddly weird, but sweet.
"Perfect," she ate her toast in silence, avoiding the eggs and the bacon didn't really interest her. "Thank you, but you don't have to make food for me." She got to her feet and made her way to the kitchen and threw away the remaining food in the trash.
"Lex wanted to," Clarke froze, her heart jumping up at the name.
"Can we not call her that?"
"What?" Aden enquired, wrinkling his nose in confusion, he had always called her Lex, why would he change that now?
"Can we call her Goldie or something, it's just her name reminds me of someone," Clarke explained, not really an explanation Aden was expecting but he had seen the pictures and sketches in the boxes in the garage, he had concluded that Lex was a friend of hers.
"Her other name is Madi, you can call her Madi. " He answered and Clarke nodded and sat down, "What do you do all day?" He asked.
"Write, sleep, piant and repeat."
"You don't talk much, why's that?" Aden inquired more, he wanted to know Clarke, to know what made her, her.
"You ask a lot of questions, why's that?"
"Le-" Aden stopped as she watched Clarke flinch, "Madi is special, she deserves more." Clarke watched the boy in confusion, what the hell was he on about now, she turned to look at the girl giggling about something she saw on tv, she really is special Clarke thought, but remained quiet. "Do you care for her?"
"I don't know her." she studied the boy, trying to figure out what he was on about, trying to figure out what was going in that mind of his. He didn't say anything more, after. He just looked towards the TV. Did she care for her, a part of her did, but after all they were just strangers and she hadn't spent much time with them.
Clarke had never seen people so peculiar before, but maybe her lack of human contact and communication was effecting the way she saw the kids, maybe they were normal, but something about them was weird.
"Why did you ask me to come back?"
Clarke didn't even remember saying that, she didn't remember anything that had happened last night, just that she had shared her pizza with a little boy, he didn't look little as he watched him, he looked a bit older now.
