Kazuichi woke up in Gundham's bed, he was still asleep. He wiggled out from under the blankets and pulled on his yellow jumpsuit. He snuck out of the room and walked quietly down the stairs. It was nice to not be scared of what he would wake up to for a change. He went downstairs and he smelled something cooking in the kitchen. He peeked into the kitchen, a small woman with hair a similar color to Gundham's, black with grey stripes, was hunched over the oven cooking something.
"Gundham sweetie--" she said, turning around. Kazuichi pulled back behind the wall he was peeking out from. When the woman realized he wasn't who she thought it was, she gasped.
"Oh, Gundham had a friend over? He never tells me anything.... What's your name my child?" She asked. Kazuichi was nervous and he poked his head back out from the hiding spot.
"You don't have to worry sweetie, I don't bite!" She joked.
"I'm baking some muffins for my son's birthday today" she explained. From what she said, Kazuichi assumed she was Gundham's mother. The oven was preheating to 350° and there was a bowl of batter it was tan and had blueberries floating around in it.
"Could you do me a favor dear?" She asked. Kazuichi nodded gently.
"Can you put the cupcake liners in the pans for me please?" She continued. Kazuichi took the liners and put one in each of the 12 holes in each pan.
"Very good," she praised. Gundham's mom was a psychologist, and she had noticed how Kazuichi behaved, she guessed something traumatic had happened, so she was gentle when speaking to him.
She poured some of the batter into each of the slots in the pan and set them into the oven.
"If Gundham's not awake yet he must be pretty tired... Can you come with me to help feed the animals?" She offered. Kazuichi followed her down the stairs to the animal room he had seen last night.
"Ok, so the animals that need to be fed are the hedgehog, the hamsters, the rats, and the dog." She announced. Kazuichi looked around, he saw the first three animals but he didn't see a dog.
"Now, you can feed the little ones, but, kiki gets a little aggressive, so we should wait until Gundham wakes up to feed her" she explained. Kazuichi noticed there was another section of the room, cut off by a flimsy makeshift looking half wall. He peeked over the door to see a big golden dog, next he noticed she had puppies by her belly. The puppies were really cute, and they were all gold except for one dark brown one with a chocolate colored hue.
He was looking at the puppies so he didn't even notice Gundham's mom leave and come back with some fresh fruits and veggies. She put some in the hedgehogs home along with some sort of kibble.
She handed some to Kazuichi.
"Feed the rats, they're real sweet, so you don't have to worry about getting nibbled on" Gundham's mom said. He reluctantly opened the cage and Saki and Luka came out to greet him. The rats both sniffed his hands and took some of the apple slices he was holding, They nibbled on them loudly. He gently pet Saki while she ate. Luka finished her food first and tried to steal Saki's, they play squabbled for a bit before getting tired of it. Kazuichi put some of their kibble into their bowl, and they both claimed onto his arm. He froze in shock, their little paws tickled. They stopped at his shoulders, and he felt something tickling his ears. Luka was licking his ear, he squeaked in surprise and started laughing,
"Hey little buddy!" He said. He picked them up and locked them back in their cage. Gundham's mom laughed too,
"They really like you! You know Gundham is looking for a home for them." She said.
"I don't think my dad would allow that..." Kazuichi replied. He made a sad face.
"Well you can visit them here whenever you want!" She comforted him.
They went back upstairs and waited for the muffins to cook. Soon they heard a knock on the door. Ms.Tanaka went to open it, Kazuichi sat at the counter and thought for a while, he was so lucky to be here, and he felt like he didn't deserve it. He made a deep thoughtful face. Suddenly he heard a very familiar voice,
"Kazuichi!"
"Miss Sonia?" He said, confused.
"Oh you two know each other? That's nice! Can you two go get Gundham? he's still asleep." She asked. Sonia ran up the stairs and Kazuichi followed behind. She burst into Gundham's room and said,
"Shhhh, we're going to jump on him, ready. 3... 2... 1..., Raaagh!" She jumped on top of Gundham, while Kazuichi kind of just lightly shook his arm. Gundham yelped in shock,
"My dark queen, my shark mortal prince, you have awoken me... Now please get off.." Gundham begged. Kazuichi noticed the new nickname, it was strange but cute.
"Since when are you and Kazuichi friends?" Sonia asked. Kazuichi had a crush on Sonia and everybody knew. But Sonia clearly wasn't interested in him.
"My devas accepted him yesterday..." Gundham responded, still sleepy.
Kazuichi used to be mad at Gundham because he thought Sonia liked him, but the truth was she was a lesbian, and she hadn't told anyone but Gundham.
"But why is he here today? Remember the plan..." She half whispered.
"He can help with the plan" Gundham grumbled.
"What plan? You know I can hear you guys!" Kazuichi complained.
"We'll tell you tonight" Sonia said. Gundham brushed his hair, and put some gel in it to make it stick up like usual. Suddenly he turned around,
"I have forgotten... I must give nutrients to my devas and my other warriors of darkness." He said.
"Me and your mom already fed the animals, except the dog." Kazuichi explained.
"Then let's go have a party!" Sonia announced.
