I woke up slightly disoriented and groggy; then the night came rushing back. I slept with my best friend, I slept with Luke Hemmings. You felt a sense of happiness and accomplishment; after being in love with him for years things were finally changing for the better. You looked around the sunny room and saw Luke had got dressed and assumingly gone downstairs so you did the same and went to look for him.
You walked down the stairs and padded torwards the kitchen where you heard movement. When you walked in you were greeted by Luke making a bowl of cereal.
“Morning, “ you chirped along with a smile.
He glanced over at you for a second and then turned back to his cereal.
“I was thinking we could maybe hangout today Luke,” you asked.
“Can’t; I’ve got stuff to do,” he replied rudely, not looking at you.
“Like what,” you wondered, Luke wasn’t one to withhold information from you.
“I said stuff.” He was being so cold.
“What’s your problem Luke?” You demanded to know what the fuck his problem was, last night was one of the best nights of your life and he was really killing your vibe.
“You know what, you are Sarah.” He snapped, “Last night was a mistake, probably the biggest mistake I’ve ever made for fucks sake. Do you honestly expect our friendship to be the same, for me to look at you the same? I just don’t see how things could EVER be the same. I never wanted to have sex with my sister. I just got stupidly drunk.”
You had heard enough. Of all the years knowing Luke, you had never been hurt this bad by anyone. He was definitely the last person you’d expect to hurt you this way.
You tried to fight the tears as you spoke, “whatever Luke, I should go.”
“Yeah, I think that’d be best.”
You walked out quickly and waited till you got to your car to let the tears spill over. You couldn’t stop crying the whole way home. How could he do this to you? After everything you guys had been through… how fucking dare he. You were done with Luke Hemmings and his bullshit. For all you cared, you would be fine with never seeing him again.
At least that’s what you were telling yourself to try to make the hurt stop; it wasn’t working that well though.
You arrived back at your apartment and immediately headed to the shower; you really needed it.
You turned on the water and let it warm up. You caught a glimpse of yourself in the mirror as you got in; you looked horrible. Your eyes were puffy and red from crying, accompanied with dark circles to show for your late night; thank god for makeup.
You got in the shower and stood there as the water poured over you. It was warm and comforting like a hug; exactly what you needed. You weren’t sure how long passed, all you knew that there in the shower everything was frozen in time, you were okay, if only for a moment. As you lathered your loofa and began to wash yourself you realized something, you were washing away Luke. His touch, the way his lips felt on you, his body against yours; it was all going down the drain along with the suds. You began to scrub harder hoping the memories of last night would wash away as well, like it never happen; of course they didn’t though. You could feel the tears roll down your cheeks, only to be washed away by water; it made it easier to pretend you weren’t crying over him at least.
As you washed off the remaining soap you turned off the water and grabbed a towel drying off. After you determined you were reasonably dry you walked into your bedroom and pulled out some comfy casual clothes. After you were dressed and groomed you went into the living room and set yourself up on the couch in preparation for a Netflix binge. Right as you were about to queue up another episode of American Horror Story your phone buzzed with a text. Your heart fluttered a little in anxiousness hoping it was Luke, it wasn’t of course, it was John.
“Hey, can I see you tonight? I have a surprise for you,” the text read.
You weren’t sure how you would face him, you weren’t going to tell him, but you just weren’t sure how you could hang out with him without feeling guilty leading you to think of Luke. You knew if you didn’t force yourself to hang out with him now you never would.
“Okay,” you responded.
“Great! Meet me at the restaurant next to the movies around 7?”
“Sounds good; see you then.”
You looked at the clock and realized it was later than you had realized. You began to hurriedly get ready, taking extra time on your makeup today to make sure any reminders on your face of last night were well hidden. You were amazed at the girl you saw in the mirror once you were finished; she looked nothing like the girl you had saw this morning, and you were thankful for that.
At 6:45 you took one last look at yourself in the mirror, grabbed your keys, and headed to the restaurant. Time to put on the best show of your life.
