You arrived at the restaurant right on time; you parked the car and headed inside. As soon as you entered you saw John was already waiting for you at a table set for two. When he spotted you his face lit up and he waved; you made your way over. As you neared he stood up and took out your chair for you and waited for you to be seated before returning to his seat.
“Hi babe, you look great tonight,” he smiled.
“Thank you,” you gave him the best smile you could manage. “So, what’s this surprise you have for me?”
He chuckled, “Anxious are we,” he smirked at you, “I like that about you. Well, I remember you saying how much you wanted to see Fallout Boy when they came to town,” he reached down into his pocket to retrieve his wallet, “So I got you two tickets!”
You were surprised; you two had just started dating and he was already giving you a big present like this? You knew most girls wouldn’t complain but after what had happen last night you felt guiltier and guiltier as the minutes ticked passed.
“Wow John! This is…great! I wasn’t expecting this…”
“I know it’s kind of soon to be giving you something this expensive but I really like you Sarah and I think you’re a really special girl.”
Was he trying to make me feel horrible, did he know?
No, there was no way he could; he was just a genuine nice guy, who I had cheated on. Well, Luke wanted to pretend it never happen and at this rate I did as well. That’s exactly what I’m going to do and just focus on my relationship with John. I would get through this; even if it killed me.
“I figured you and Luke could go,” John smiled.
“What…?” he had to know; why else would he bring up Luke.
“Well I just, I know he’s your best friend and he’s like your brother,”
Yeah the brother I slept with last night.
“And I know you two have the same music taste so I figured it would be a nice thing for the two of you,” he continued.
You felt like you were going to be sick.
“Sarah, are you alright?”
No, not at all
“Yeah, I’m fine. I just think you should come with me because you’re my boyfriend and you bought the tickets so it only seems fair, plus I think it would be a fun date.” You tried to say this as sweetly as possible, there was no way you were going with Luke.
His face lit up; “Yeah I would love to go; you just keep getting better and better don’t you?”
The rest of dinner you guys made small talk and chit chatted about random stuff until you had been there for an acceptable amount of time.
“Well, I should get going,” you stood up and grabbed your belongings, “Thank you for dinner.”
He got up and hugged you and gave you a kiss, “No problem.”
You couldn’t get out of there fast enough, you practically ran to your car. You got in your car and headed home.
Once home, you checked your phone; nothing.
You sighed and began getting ready for bed. Before bed you added the concert date to your calendar; you would’ve loved to go with Luke, you guys always went to concerts together, but you had no choice things had to be this way. Maybe going with John would be fun, who knows? You got into bed and reached over to your nightstand to make sure your alarm was set for the correct time, you had work in the morning, gross. You lay down and hoped for sleep to come quickly, it didn’t of course. Your thoughts stayed on Luke, tears streaming down your face. You two had fought before but usually you would’ve heard from him by now; you still hadn’t. Maybe… Maybe your friendship was really over this time.
