It took a month for me to a wake up; a month for the doctors to see the progress they hoped for, and a month to just lay there and think of everything. I wanted to be with Luke of course but what if that was all talk because he wasn’t sure if you’d get better. You wanted him to prove it outside of the hospital room.
When you woke up you were greeted by Luke’s face first, with his piercing blue eyes that you had looked into for years; the eyes you had fallen in love with. You had heard everything Luke had said to you, but you acted like you hadn’t. If he meant it he could prove it to you while you were awake.
After two more weeks in the hospital you were released; Luke drove you home and decided to stay at your place till you got back on your feet. Things felt different between the two of you; awkward almost. You found lots of empty conversations leaving you wanting more. I guess neither of you knew where to begin, as far as Luke knew the last thing you had heard from his mouth was him calling you a slut.
Luke made dinner that night and you two sat face to face; the only sound that could be heard was the silver ware scraping against the plates. It was driving you crazy. You had enough.
You put your silverware down.
“Luke, why are you acting so different, if anything I should be the one acting different.”
“I don’t know.” He looked down at his plate; concentrating extra hard on cutting his carrots into small bites.
“Luke I don’t get you sometimes.” You were frustrated; you got up and went to take a shower; you needed time to think and cool off. Maybe you were right, maybe he only said it out of guilt.
You started the shower and got in; the warm water overtaking you and relaxing you. You reached down to pick up your shower gel when you were struck with an intense dizzy spell. The doctors warned you this could happen for a while after the accident but it was so sudden. You tried to grab on the rack that held the soaps but it came tumbling down a long with you.
“Sarah!” it was Luke. “Sarah are you alright, what’s with all that noise?” He was talking to you from the bedroom door.
“I’m fine; just got dizzy.”
“Do you need me to come in?” Oh my god; no.
“No, I’m fine!” You tried to make your voice sound as steady as possible as you tried to find your balance and stand but you slipped within seconds.
“Sarah I’m coming in,” before I could even protest he barged in with a towel and turned off the water before covering me and carrying me bridal style to my bed. He laid me down and brought the cover over me.
“You might want to stick to baths for a little while; just till your balance is fully back.” He wouldn’t look at you.“Luke,”
“Yes?” he still wasn’t looking at me.
“Luke, look at me damn it.” He did.
“Luke, how do you feel about me?”
“What do you mean, you’re my best friend.” He tried not to let his gaze drop but it was hard; he sat there biting his lip ring.
“That’s it, I’m just your best friend?” Hearing him say that kind of stung but you had to test him to see if what he had said in the hospital was true.
You removed the towel and blanket. So since I’m just your best friend, this doesn’t bother you? His eyes widened in shock and his face turned a deeper shade of chrimson than Michael’s hair.
His gaze drifted across your body, “Sarah what are you doing?”
I sat up and crawled towards him; positioning myself on his lap.
“So this doesn’t bother you?”
“Sarah, stop.” He was still messing with his lip and you could feel him growing through his pants.
“You say to stop, but your body says otherwise Lukey.” I guess your brush with death had made you more courageous, or maybe you were tired of playing these games. You needed to know how you felt and you needed to know now.
“Fuck Sarah.” That’s when Luke mashed his lips into yours and pinned you down to the bed. This time was different than the last, sweeter and more passionate. He was taking his time. It was the best sex of your life.
Afterwards he pulled you close to him and you could feel his heart still racing.
“Sarah?”
“Hmmm..?”
“I love you.” He said it; he finally said it.
“I love you too Luke,” You had waited for years for him to say it and for it to be real; you had waited for your dreams to come true. This was everything you had always wanted; he was everything you always wanted. You should’ve been in heaven but you weren’t. You felt hollow and empty like something was missing and you had no idea why. You fell asleep being cuddled by Luke; everything in your life should feel perfect now, but it didn’t. You had no idea why.
