Luke pulled out a folded piece of paper from his pocket - you recognized his own messy handwriting scribbled across it. "So," he began as he skimmed the paper, "I'll mostly be gone for three months at a time and then I'll be back for almost two months between thanksgiving and Christmas. Then we'll finish off the tour by next summer." He looked up and smiled, "I'm so glad I get time off for Christmas and we can Skype or Face time everyday. " He put the paper away and reached for your hand, "Isn't this great Sarah?" "Yeah,so great," you thought to yourself. So great that with every word you were dying a little more inside. "Sarah?" Luke's excited puppy face had dropped to one of worry. "Hmm?" you questioned, more interested in what your thoughts were saying than hearing how he was leaving you. "I said,'Isn't this great'?" He frowned. "Oh, yeah Luke, so fucking great." you squeezed a tight lipped smile. You knew you weren't doing your best to hide the impending sarcasm in your voice, but who fucking cares? Before Luke could question your response your waiter approached. "What will it be you two,?" she smiled extra chipper and so fucking fake. "I'll have tea and a chicken Cesar salad," you handed her the menu. "And I'll have a coke and a bacon burger," Luke handed her his menu. "Alright I'll have that right out for you." She scribbled away then left. The rest of the dinner was awkward small talk and painful silence. You were not in the mood to hear the details of Luke leaving. The thought just made you sick.
Luke and you finished up dinner and headed home, still in this painful silence. You refused to look at him but could feel his blue eyes piercing you. Every touch made toward you- rejected. You just wanted to go home and lay in bed and not be bothered by this anymore.
Luke pulled into the driveway and you raced up to the apartment keys in hand, beating him inside. You were already in your pajamas making your way towards bed when you heard him come in. "Sarah, where are you? I got the mail...?" Luke called out. There was nothing ever important in the mail so there really was no need for him to tell you. You sighed and turned over; your back facing the bedroom door. "Sarah," Luke called out again, but you still refused to respond. You needed time to cool off and process everything and Luke being all happy and excited to leave you wasn't going to help in the slightest. Were you being immature? Probably. Did you care? At this moment no. Everyone has there own ways of dealing with things; this was yours.
You heard your husbands giant feet approaching your bedroom door, followed by a knock. Did he really just knock to a room you two shared? That's Luke Hemmings for you everyone. The door opened but you refused to turn your back. "Sarah, what's wrong? Did I do something? Please talk to me." No response. He took off his shoes and climbed into bed behind you; pulling you close. There was no more escaping this conversation you either face it now or fall off the bed; you've fallen off the bed before and it hurt like a bitch, you weren't about to do that shit again. Luke turned you over so you were at the giant's chest level. He chuckled then scooted down so you two were face to face. N The floor was starting to look like the better option. "Talk to me Sarah."
It was time to get this shit over with.
