Chapter Five : Two Weeks

A week had gone by and I can tell you, waiting for Althea to get back to me was agonising. Just seeing her in the lobby was get me all antsy. It was something I needed to know.

But today is the day. Today I will get the call or if i'm lucky enough I will catch her in the hall.

"Rose, dear. Would you be an angel and go to the store. We need milk and sugar." My mum asked and of course, anything to be able to walk through the lobby.

As much as I didn't want to work for this woman, I needed a job. I don't know much greek so working in retail would be kind of a struggle.

"No problem, I will go now!" And that's exactly what I did.

Walking through the lobby, Althea stood at the front desk with the receptionist, Hector.

"Miss Rosalie. I'm sorry to tell you like this but unfortunately I have not chosen you to be my assistant. I have chosen, Irene here." She stopped me. Her words feeling very much unprofessional.

"Oh," I was disappointed but I knew she wouldn't take it easy on me.

"I'm happy for you, Irene." I smile and she thanks me. "Thank you for your time."

I walk away and out the door. No need to waste more time with her.

The walk to the store was short, only across the road. I pick up the milk and sugar and pay at the register.

The cashier was quick and quiet. He shoved my things in a paper bag before handing them over.

"Thank you." I smile and nod before leaving. Within ten minutes I was already back inside, placing the items on the bench for my mother.

"I'm soo bored." Hudson groaned from the couch, poor guy had been coped up in this room for a couple days now.

"Come on, i'll take you to the garden." I smiled, waving for my brother to follow me. I don't spend much time with my little brother and that is definitely something I regret.

"I don't want to see a garden."

"Then stay in here and go crazy." And with that said, he was up and out the door with me. It wasn't long before we were sitting at the bench of the garden.

"It's quite nice out here." He said and I agreed.

"My favourite place of the hotel, besides the roof of course."

"I want to see the roof!"

"No!"

"Why not?"

"Hudson, you're so clumsy you'll fall off." I laugh before standing up to walk around the garden.

Lavender, Rosemary, Sage,

All my favourite smells combined together. I love it!

"I thought I would find you out here." The one and only Sebastian Lake said from the doorway.

"Oh hey, this is Hudson. My little brother." I say,

"I believe we've briefly met, nice to see you again Hudson." He says and my dopey brother just smiles at him.

"Anyways, I came to apologise. I'm sorry you didn't get the job, I was rooting for you." He sat down on the bench next to Hudson.

"Thanks, I knew I wasn't going to get it. I'm sure she doesn't like me." I say

"You got off lucky, she isn't the best person to work for. I work with her and that's bad enough." He laughed and I couldn't help but laugh with him.

"She's kind of mean."

"She is mean." He corrects me

"I came here to ask you a question." He said.

Hopefully he's going to ask me out.

"My assistant is going away for two weeks and i'm in search for a replacement for the time being. The job is yours if you want it, it's only for a few hours a day. You'll just have to do things such as writing down notes in meetings, answering the phone for me and the occasional tidy up of my things." He said and I already knew my answer. He didn't need to explain anything!

"Yes! Of course, that would be absolutely splendid. Thank you so much!" I chirp, practically pouncing on the man.

"Sorry, I'm just so excited."

"I'm glad, well then miss Rose. I will see you tomorrow morning at 9am." He says with a smile before leaving.

By the afternoon, mother and I were walking around the small mall they had in town looking for clothes that were more suitable for work.

Nice black pants, blouses and other nice shirts. Anything we could think of that would be great as "professional work" clothes.

"These will look absolutely darling on you." My mother said as we checked out.

"Oh gosh, I hope they will. I don't want Althea saying anything again." I groaned

"I will have to talk to that woman." She said, shaking her head. "I've got a bone to pick with her." She laughed, going on and on about the lady who manages the hotel we not only own but live in.

What I mean by we own, I mean my father.

———

9am rolled around and I was so excited. So excited to be working for mr hunk! This turned out so much better than what I was expecting. Althea said no and Sebastian said yes!

But the thing is, he asked me!

"Oh dear, you look absolutely stunning! I don't know what that lady means that your clothes are unprofessional!" My mother said, she was already not fond of Althea from their meetings with my father.

"Thank you, mother!"

"I know it's only for two weeks but if you make the best impression you can, it could last longer." The only downside of this job was that it was lasting two weeks and this his permanent assistant would return and take over.

"Now go and kill it!" She said, rushing me out the door.

And that's exactly what I was going to do!
