RAKSHIT'S POV
As Drishti went down on one knee, I felt everything slow down around me. My mind went blank, my heart changed pace. What was happening?
Deep down somewhere, I knew the answer to that question.
The lights on the terrace dimmed, casting soft shadows all around me. But I couldn't take my eyes off of Drishti. She was sitting on the floor on one knee, the other one bent behind her, her dark brown eyes gazing into mine.
Carefully, she broke the eye contact and closed her eyes, taking a deep breath.
After a few seconds, Drishti opened her eyes and pulled out a rose from behind her. I realized that all this time, her hands were folded behind her back, probably holding the rose.
She swallowed and then parted her lips.
Everything around me paused.
~ "Rakshit, I... I have been preparing for this moment for quite sometime now... Because I have wanted this to be perfect."
She paused. My breathing became sharper. I knew where this was going.
~ "But sitting here, right now, with you in front of me... This moment is perfect - more perfect than I could ever imagine this to be... Rakshit, I feel for you, I do... There was a time when I had tried to escape from this thing that I feel for you, but I wasn't able to. I never will be, no matter how hard I tried.
Rakshit, for me, you are like oxygen, I will probably -"
I dropped to the ground on my knees and covered her mouth with my palm before she could speak the word.
~ "I think I had forbidden you to speak of death."
Her eyes were watering now.
I thought that there would be more, but to my surprise, she hugged me and whispered those magical words into my neck.
~ "I love you, Rakshit."
I hugged her back, letting my hand caress her hair.
After a few minutes, I pulled apart a little bit, just enough to look into her eyes. She looked back into mine with the same intensity.
~ "Don't you love me, Rakshit?"
She asked childishly.
I laughed inside my head, but kept my face serious on the outside.
~ "Drishti, I am afraid but I don't feel the same for you -"
A tear dropped down her face. Rakshit Shergill, you have the worst sense of humour. This is no time to make such a third class joke. But I was having fun, teasing Drishti a little.
~ "I knew it, you don't love me -"
She got up and turned to go. But I held her wrist and pulled her down. She fell on top of me, our faces just inches apart.
~ "Drishti, I am sorry but I don't feel the same for you. I feel more."
Her eyes widened. She pounded on my chest with little fists.
~ "I hate you, Rakshit."
She was crying now.
~ "But I love you, Drishti. I love you so, so much!"
Before she could react, I closed the distance between us, pulling her into a passionate kiss. As I felt her lips against mine, everything around us melted into the shadows casted by the dimmed lights.
