RAKSHIT'S POV
It all started approximately a month after we returned from our honeymoon, Drishti started behaving extremely abnormal. To be honest, at first, I thought that she was just a little insecure about our relationship, especially after the confession, but her insecurities kept growing, no matter how much I tried to console her. And then, there was this sudden change in her taste buds. Just last night, she woke me up at two o'clock and asked me to bring her icecream. Now, normally, this was fine, we often had midnight icecream dates, but last night, when I brought her chocolate icecream, she pushed the bowl away. Upon asking her the reason, she told me that she wanted to eat chocolate icecream mixed with vanilla icecream. Who does this?! When I expressed my disapproval of this (of course, I didn't want her to end up in the hospital the next morning), she started crying and accusing me of losing interest in her and falling for some other girl.
This little incident expanded so badly that mom had to come and console Drishti and assure her of my loyalty. As I had predicted, the next morning, she woke up and immediately threw up the chocolate and vanilla icecream (choconilla icecream?).
Also, these days, Drishti's hormones have been acting a little crazy, not that I did not love intimating with her, but somedays I was just too tired with the office work to give her time. And this was another reason, Drishti thought that I was losing interest in her.
Unsure of what was happening to Drishti (though mom kept me giving me weird looks), I decided to call a doctor.
But the entire idea turned against me.
On seeing a doctor, Drishti became excessively paranoid and started shouting at me. She kept blaming me of thinking that she was mad (after all that she has been doing lately, this could be the only coherent reason).
The doctor forced her a mild sleep injection (it was horrible, don't ask me for the details) and when she fell asleep, he took a blood sample and checked her pulse rate.
~ "I won't be able to say anything right now, Mr. Shergill. We have to wait till the blood reports come."
Drishti woke up a few hours later. I carefully avoided her, letting mom sit beside her and explain to her everything. But she did not eat anything for lunch, even when we tried to convince her multiple times. I was so worried about her, everything was going fine and now, all of a sudden...
The doctor came back again in the evening. This time Drishti did not protest when he checked her pulse again.
~ "Your wife is perfectly normal Mr. Shergill." Either I have the wrong definition of 'normal' or the doctor has a wrong one. "Or as normal as she can be in this situation."
~ "This situation?"
~ "Congratulations Mr. Shergill, your wife is pregnant."
What? I think that I heard it wrong.
~ "But I..." Drishti's mouth was wide open.
~ "Congratulations to you too, Mrs. Shergill. And yes, I saw your previous reports, you suffered a miscarriage. But that was just due to increasing stress levels and anxiety. Your womb is strong enough to carry a child. Just take extra precautions, that's all."
The doctor smiled at us. I felt my eyes tearing up.
~
That night, I took Drishti out for a dinner date. As we walked around the block, she linked her arm with mine.
~ "Rakshit, will I be a good mom?"
I smiled down at her.
~ "Drishti, I am sure that you will make the best mommy ever, but I am kinda worried about me. Do you think I should be a cool dad or a strict dad?"
She rolled her eyes.
~ "You should rule out the cool dad option. Because you are not cool, at all."
I squinted.
~ "Hah! I will be the coolest dad ever! You wait and watch."
We looked at each other for quite a bit and then she burst out laughing.
It felt so good to be walking with her, seeing her smile and laugh so freely.
Even if what Akash did to her was horrible, but yet, I cannot thank him enough for bringing Drishti into my life.
~ "Rakshit, will you love me even when I become fat like a cow?"
~ "Hmm, difficult question -"
I felt her eyes widening with horror.
Irritated, she unlinked her arm from mine and stomped ahead of me.
I laughed and ran behind her.
As I reached her, I tackled her gently from the back and picked her up.
~ "What the hell are you -?"
Before she could complete her question, I kissed her. Breathless and flustered, she responded.
After a few seconds, I broke the kiss and pulled apart.
I looked into her eyes, she gazed back.
~ "Drishti, no matter what, I will always love you the same, if not more. I am so grateful to have you in my life. To me, Drishti, you are my forever. Please always stay mine."
She closed her eyes and rested her forehead against mine.
~ "Forever and ever."
