FIFTY NINE — ( WASHINGTON ! )

SYDNEY HAD BEEN IN WASHINGTON FOR LESS THAN THREE HOURS WHEN SHE HAD DECIDED TO RIP THE BAND AID OFF AND TELL HER FAMILY ABOUT RUDY. She had been waiting for the perfect moment, waiting till they were all together in the same room and everyone was in a good mood. And when that moment had arrived, Sydney had taken a deep breath in. "So, I've got something to tell you guys." Sydney had faced her parents and her younger brother as they stood in her parents kitchen. Her mom was preparing dinner for the four of them as the other three stood around the kitchen, watching and helping, just spending time together. Sydney had just been telling them how it was during quarantine with her co-stars, her family had a lot of questions about her new friends. And Rudy's name had been brought up a couple of times so Sydney thought it was the perfect opportunity to tell them. All she had done was announce that she had something to tell them.

"You're dating Rudy again." The words out of her younger brother's mouth had made Sydney's own mouth drop in surprise. A laugh had came out of their mother's mouth as Sydney continued to stare at her brother.

"What?" Sydney finally answered her brother. "How did you..." She trailed off, not entirely sure what to say to him. Frankie had been laughing at himself, finding it funny that his guess was correct. And the look on his sister's face was priceless.

Then when their mother had realised that it wasn't a joke, seeing the look on Sydney's face, she had then stopped laughing. "Oh, you're serious?" 

"It was really obvious." Frankie had shrugged his shoulders, still smiling. He had seen their interviews, seen everything online and by the way that Sydney had spoken about him, he was certain that they were back together.

"Sydney..." Sydney ignored her mother's condescending tone.

"Well, that didn't go how I planned." Sydney breathed out, running her hands through her hair due to nerves. "Yes, me and Rudy are dating. Again." She had then said it out loud herself, feeling a weight being lifted off her shoulders.

Sydney's eyes then flickered to her mother. "Please tell me you're joking." The words from her mouth made Sydney's heart drop. Was she mad?

"Why?" The younger girl frowned at her mother. What kind of reaction was that?

"Lisa!" Her fathers voice echoed through the kitchen making both Sydney and her brother flinch.

Lisa Wilson's head snapped round to face her husband. "What, Scott?" She didn't see anything wrong with what she had said to her daughter. Was it wrong for her to not want her daughter to date the same guy who broke her heart all those years ago?

"God, I knew you'd react like this." Sydney had groaned, squeezing her eyes shut and wishing she was back in Alaska with Rudy. At least his mother was happy with their rekindled relationship.

"I'm just surprised." Lisa tried to retract her clear annoyance with Sydney's announcement but it was a little late to hide her feelings from her now.

"Really?" Frankie questioned. He thought it was more than obvious. His sister was clearly smitten. "I mean, everyone has seen this coming for months."

Sydney rolled her eyes at her younger brother. "Alright, we get it." He didn't need to keep going on and on about it.

Sydney's father, Scott, had approached his daughter, seeing her discomfort. "I'm happy for you sweetheart." Scott said, wrapping his arm around Sydney's shoulders, giving them a squeeze.
