I'm Lucy Taylor, a recently divorced 34 year old.The divorce had been on the horizon for a while. It was amicable, and we remained friends. But we were definitely over and we both seemed happy with that.
Since the divorce I'd become a fan of all things Marvel having watched all the films in the correct order. I'd grown a slight obsession with a certain Captain America, or more so Chris Evans. I'd collected a lot of his back catalogue of films and although some of them were only average, when I saw Gifted I was shook and balled my eyes out. What an actor! I scoured Youtube for interviews with him in. Could he really be that attractive, that good an actor and have the personality to match? As it turns out, he does, seemingly in interviews at least. Such a likable guy, who suffered with anxiety (I do too), funny, romantic, and yet amazingly single!
I was scrolling through Instagram one evening after putting my nephew to bed (he was having a sleepover at my house) and Chris Evans had posted a few pictures of himself from the early 2000's, he looked gorgeous in all of them, but he'd captioned them saying it was a fashion disaster. So I felt the need to let him know he wasn't. I'd sent messages to celebrities before and obviously never gotten a reply, this was no different. I sent him a message saying "Gorgeous at any age Mr Evans", put my phone down and thought nothing more of it.
A couple of days later, Saturday evening to be precise, I was sat downstairs in my house channel hopping, relaxing with a glass of rose and some Doritos. My phone dinged and I saw it was an Instagram DM. I rarely got DMs on Instagram, intrigued I opened up my DMs and what I saw made me go open mouthed a'la goldfish! Chris Evans, one of the hottest, nicest men on the planet had replied to my DM! No surely this wasn't happening, I must have been dreaming. Right? Hollywood movie star DMs English divorcee? Nah. Must be a prank. Nevertheless I hastily opened up the DM. He had simply replied 'Nice of you to say so ;)'. I didn't really know what to do. Did I like it, reply to it or ignore it, clearly being a wind up from Tom my tech savvy friend? I decided the safest option would be to like it. Don't engage in conversation.
I went back to my Instagram home screen and scrolled for a bit. I saw Tom had posted a picture of him and his wife out at the theatre, 3 minutes ago. Well it couldn't have been him then. Was this actually happening? Had Chris Evans actually replied to me? I placed my phone down on the arm of the chair and got myself a refill of wine and took a few deep breaths. I sat back down, tucking my legs underneath me, and my phone dinged again. It was another DM, I hastily opened it, it simply said 'hey :)'
I paused. What harm could it do, if it was the real Chris Evans this was a once in a lifetime opportunity, and I'm sure there was some way of me figuring out who it was really was, I was pretty good with technology. There was no way he was messaging me!
Lucy
Um hey :)
Chris Evans
I hope you don't mind me messaging you, i just wanted to say thank you again for your lovely comment about my dated photos, I looked so dorky!
Lucy
That's no problem
Chris Evans
So what are you doing at the moment? It's evening in England isn't it?
Lucy
Um just channel hopping with wine. And yeah 8pm here in rainy old England.
Chris Evans
Ah a woman after my own heart, I see a beer in my future with Netflix ;) It's a bit early for a beer here, only just turned 3pm.
At this point, I didn't know what was happening, was I actually having a conversation with Chris Evans? I had to find out, the suspense was killing me!
Lucy
Are you really Chris Evans? Sorry to be so rude, but I don't quite get why Chris Evans would be messaging little old me!
Chris Evans
Um well yeah it is, but obviously you can only take my word for it. And like i just said I wanted to thank you for your comment.
Lucy
Hmmm, I'm not sure I believe you.
Chris Evans
Why wouldn't I be telling the truth?
Lucy
There's a lot of people out there pretending to be celebrities for some ulterior motive. I'm sure you're well aware of that.
Chris Evans
Hmm how to prove I am me? *laughing emoji* ooh I know
Chris Evans
*posts selfie of him and Dodger*, I take it you know my dog?
Lucy
:O
Chris Evans
Believe me now?
Hello?
Anyone there?
I was in complete shock. THE Chris Evans was messaging little old Lucy from London! How was this happening?!
Chris Evans
Lucy?
Lucy
Um yeah I'm here. You're really him aren't you? You're Chris Evans!
Chris Evans
Yup
Lucy
I'm so sorry for not believing you. Just a little hard to get my head around. I didn't mean to be such a fan girl!
Chris Evans
It's cool, I get it.
Lucy
Does it bother you? The fame stuff? Not being able to go out without being recognised?
I may have been quite calm DMing him but I did not look it. I had a big goofy grin on my face, and I couldn't get over this suprising turn of events. Wait till I told Emma! She appreciated the hotness of him just as much as I did.
Chris Evans
It can do, but I'm so grateful for my career, and I know my success is down to the fans. So its kind of a double edged sword
Lucy
I couldn't do it. I'd love the success but I don't think I could deal with the fame, it just seems so intrusive. Paparazzi following you everywhere you go, nipping out for milk, grabbing an ice cream with a friend. Couldn't be doing with that.
Chris Evans
I would say you get used to it, but you really don't, well I certainly haven't anyway.
Lucy
Stupid paparazzi, you're doing the most mundane things not shagging in public!
Chris Evans
*laughing face* You're funny ya know!
Lucy
I've been told that before. Thanks!
Chris Evans
Listen, I've gotta go now, but it was really lovely to chat with you Lucy. Maybe we could chat another time?
I paused before replying. Was this actually happening? Chris Evans wanted to chat with me some more? Hell, I was a single woman and here is this incredibly attractive lovely guy wanting to chat with me some more. Just ignore the fact he was uber famous and lived in America. I decided to live in the moment
Lucy
That would be really nice, yeah :)
