I had to take out the trash today, normally it isn't so bad since Dad installed those vacuums that spit into the storage which sends off the sawdust to papermills and alike when we are full, makes a good penny back. Today though I felt like it was a hassle since we were full and the pick up for the mill company had been sick lately so we were a little backed up, so I needed to carry the bag all the way to the city recycling center. It was new but it really was fun taking cans and alike there for a little extra spending cash when the boys were done with football or alike, funny they never seem to care about getting cash back considering they buy every can.
" Hey Dave. " I call out as I see the middle aged man come out to greet me, his beer gut was doing better since he started this business a few years ago but what really was impressive was his skin, he had moved here looking worn down and a bit older than forty and yet this seemed to bring him new life.
" Hey there Wendy. Guessing this isn't a can run? " The man always sported a button up with a white tank top, jeans and boots, a simple look but lately he shaved his head and kept a big of a beard. " Oh boy, well you know I am good with taking those in but remember one bag a month... I have plenty of storage issues till I can afford another shack. " Gesturing to the large barn in the back which he stored everything till the city sent it out.
" Ya I know, my dad has been on overdrive for the holidays and the boys are too busy trying to get car money. " I toss the bag into the trash bin he had bought to store the sawdust, it was big enough to stand in and only need to crouch to close up, but it had a pretty darn good lid that sealed everything tight.
" Oh ya I remember those days, trying to get the sweetest ride to cruise around in. Though I figured those boys would go for a truck like their dad. " I simple shook my head as he rolls the bin to the barn, walking with him and talking as I sighed out somewhat.
" No. They all are listening to Gideon on how hatchbacks are more suitable for "young Life." and all that. Honestly I think he is just trying to get in everyone's good graces still. "
" Ya, I heard about that from Suzy."
" Susan"
" Oop Sorry. Susan. Heh sorry I am still getting use to everything. I was kinda a recluse till last year. " I nod and smile some to him while my arms crossed over my stomach. Everyone in town was curious but we also were a little more respectful about his privacy, well except for Pacifica who was still a bit pushy then. " But that boy did something rather unsavory back in the day eh? Man if he did something that bad and people are still cautious, he must be working hard cause I have only the best things to say about that boy. "
" Well, ya, I mean... Eh. Gideon is doing better, he was gone for a year and came back to help his dad who has always been kind just... really supportive of his son. I just have a sore spot cause he almost hurt my friend. " Gideon pushes the bin into the corner of the shed so it wouldn't get mixed up before walking out and saying.
" Right right right. That Dipper boy right? " His face shifting a bit cautiously as I gave a "seriously" expression from that name.
" No not him. His sister Mabel, she is the one who made that website for everyone to order off. She's ten times more trustworthy than Dipper. " My voice mockingly saying Dipper with a bit of attitude as Dave rose his brows and wiped his hands, smiling and chuckling at me as he began towards the office camper once more.
" Woo boy you are so sore at that Boy, everyone I talk to says he is a hero here. Saved the falls from some.... I can't even remember what they called it but heck, nobody will talk about it but they will talk about him to no end. " I was getting agitated by the truth of how everyone else saw him, and while nobody hoisted him up on a pedestal, it felt like what happened with us was no matter to anyone else on what he did.
" Ya. He saved the day and was always helpful. Then he left and nobody cared how little he talked to them.... but he was my best friend and he ghosted me! " I wave a hand through the air and huff out hard. " He was always so trustworthy... now I don't care if I ever trust him again. "
" Heh, Ha ha ha ha ha HA! " Dave stopped at his stairs, having lifted the camper onto stilts because of the rain, a rather crafty mind I had to admit, the waterflow came straight here usually so it was smart to avoid any risks.
" What? Hey I can take my brothers laughing at me you know I'll hit ya! " I lift a fist and realize how little vigor I had in my words.
" I know I know. But girly, you are fighting yourself more than him. Maybe you should sit down and really think about how you feel or else you will lash out at that boy... and I can tell from how much you talk about him, he still means a lot to you. Maybe more tha---"
" Hey! Dipper Pines is a creep and a let down. I won't put anymore faith in him. " I huff and turn beginning to walk off only to stop and turn my head slightly. " Take care Dave. " I didn't want to be on bad terms with someone over Dipper, he didn't deserve to mess up my life like that. I walk off and make my way back towards the shop while crossing my arms over my chest to grip my upper arms and mentally battle with everything... even Dan was defending him now and I am once more feeling like the bad guy for feeling like I do.
" Hey champ! Look at this here! It's the finest pine the falls has to offer! " Manly Dan would be running a gloved hand over the finished desktop he was working on, the legs still needing to be made but the desk was turning out great I found out later. Except as I walked past I was so caught up in my own mind that one word really stuck out to me and I lost my temper.
" Dad! I don't care about Dipper Pines... I don't wanna hear about him and I thought my family would at least-- "
" Woah Woah Woah! " His booming voice overshot me and I still exhale a big rough as I stand there, he soon stood and towered over me a bit from his workstation as he laid his palms onto the desktop. " Now... I get it you are mad at that boy, lord knows I am too for hurting you. But you need to get yourself straight, I can't have you flipping out on that sales floor or when you are on a call with a customer. You single handily brought us online, so head home... dump a bucket of ice water on yourself if you must. If you have another outburst again I will bench ya for a week."
I turn my head away and wince somewhat, I needed the money to help pay for college to avoid asking for any help from Dad, but he probably figured that out, he was a muscle head but he was getting good with numbers after he opened this business. I simply nodded and walked out as I heard Marcus go a little quiet as he saw me rushing out, Kevin and Gus were in the next town with friends to visit a monster truck show.
Now if only it was raining it would completely fit my mindset right now as my boots made their tracks in the faintly moist ground, the misty rain we had the past few days was clearing up but the sun was only just drying it out. I tread my way towards home and soon enough lock the front door behind me and head upstairs. When I walk into my room I slip my socks off and get into a tank top, changing lazily before I switch on my speakers and wait for it to connect to my phone, turning on random and letting whatever play as I reach out and grab that old Pine hat from so long ago. Sitting onto the middle of my bed, I just brush the bill gently while it had some wear and tear from the years but it was still pretty well kept, having been shelved for so long I rarely touched it anymore.
" Why am I always wrong.,, why. " I felt everything rushing to the surface as I turn over onto my side and curl up, lazily rolling the comforter over my legs as I rest the hat on my other pillow and stare out from my blurry tear ridden vision. " Why am I so easy to leave.... " I shake a bit as I try to calm down, biting my lip to try and distract my thoughts. It wouldn't be any use, I would be asleep soon enough with a wet pillow and an all to familiar feeling, hurting and leaving me feeling so lost once again.
