As her eyelids fluttered open, the bright rays of the sun greeted her warmly, allowing Yuyan to immediately close them again. Reaching her hand out to the space next to her, the latter's eyes slowly widened. A charming grin growing on her face upon seeing Jiaqi already staring at her.
Her husky morning voice rung in her ears, "Good morning, princess."
The other girl didn't reply, instead, she continued staring blankly at Yuyan, as if contemplating something. Scrunching her brows in confusion as a little frown made its way to her face, Yuyan questioned her while waving a hand in front her face.
"A penny for your thoughts?" Blinking while supporting a tight smile, Jiaqi shook her head and got off the bed. She then finally spoke in a soft voice, "We better get ready soon or we're going to be late for school." Silence lingered for a while as the two were occupied with their thoughts before the sound of gushing water broke it.
Yuyan ran her hair through her messy bed hair, thinking of reasons why Jiaqi had seemed distant suddenly while the other was still considering on asking her question. Awkwardness filled the air as the two left their dorm with Sunrui and Daimeng already ahead of them. The taller wanted to start a conversation but couldn't think of any as her mind was just warped around how weirdly Jiaqi had acted.
Classes had begun but the two had not spoken to each other unless needed to. At that point, Yuyan was wondering if she was shy about what happened last night.
"Have you and Jiaqi resolved yesterday's problem?" Xueer wriggled her brows teasingly as she tried to break Yuyan's silence. It was now lunch time. Being her friend for years, it was obvious to the redhead that something was troubling her friend.
Sighing, Yuyan stuffed a scoop of mashed potatoes in her mouth before nodding her head. Xueer poked her tongue against her cheeks before questioning the latter, "I'm curious, are you and Jiaqi a thing?"
Yuyan bit her lip as her grip on the spoon tightened. Stabbing her food as she tried thinking of a suitable answer, the taller forced a smile and shook her head, "No, we're not..." Xueer narrowed her eyes before humming a response, "Mmm...you're lying. C'mon Yan, I've known you for years, there's no point in lying if I can just see through it."
The redhead can't lie that her heart did clench a bit when she figured how unsure Yuyan was with answer, which meant there is a possibility of the two being together. Just that alone, Xueer knew that no matter how hard she was going to try, Yuyan would forever be a step ahead of her.
Last night, the redhead had noticed the way Jiaqi looked at Yuyan was different. The glint that was in her eyes were different compared to when she was looking at others. Even when the taller was yelling at her, there was a tinge of warmth and love. Her body language spoke differently too. As someone who takes psychology classes, it was obvious to Xueer that Jiaqi had an emotion held for Yuyan and only her.
Staring into her eyes as she scanned her expression, Yuyan then shifted her gaze down to her food before quietly mumbling a barely audible reply, "I hate you..." Xueer's eyes widened as she thought she had heard wrongly but before she could open her mouth, Yuyan beat her to it.
"I hate that you put others before you. I hate that you're such an amazing friend that no words can even describe how great you are. Xueer...what am I going to do without you?" Tears slowly formed in her eyes as she continued looking down. The redhead's jaw hung open and her fists clenched while she stared at Yuyan.
Unknowingly, a smile formed on her face as she wiped the girl's tears, "Yuyan, I'm here for you whenever you need me alright? Just remember that." If it wasn't for the girl in front of her, Xueer would still be stuck in those dark times. She would still be trapped in a cage filled with sorrows and despair. It was because of Yuyan that made her feel a need to continue living.
Since young, in her eyes, Yuyan was like a younger and an older sister. Whenever she was in trouble, Xueer would always be the one to clear for her mistakes and when they reached home, she would give the girl a little scolding. Yet there were so many times where Yuyan had saved her life and fought for her. Friends was an understatement, they were more like sisters.
As the bell rang, Xueer stood up and patted Yuyan's head like she would usually do whenever the taller was feeling down, "C'mon Yan, you wouldn't want to be late for classes right? Let's go."
Looking up at the older, she smiled and nodded her head before following her back to the block. As usual, Jiaqi was seated there with her sketching book and a pencil, gazing out the window. Sighing, Yuyan then headed back to her seat, wanting to speak when the teacher entered. Great, another interruption.
In a blink of an eye, school was over and the setting sun returned. Like every other day, Yuyan waited at the door as Jiaqi packed her bag. However, a voice broke that usual silence in between.
"There you are! I've been calling you this past few weeks, why didn't you pick up baby?" A brunette back hugged Yuyan as she batted her eyelashes. A confused expression fell upon her face as she turned around, trying to remember who the girl was, that was when it clicked. She was the year 2 girl who she had sex with a good 4 weeks ago.
Gently yet forcefully pushing the girl off her body, Yuyan lowered her voice, "I thought I told you not to contact me? We were never together in the first place. So stop calling me pet names or following me you creep." Her tone was laced with exhaustion and exasperation.
Jiaqi's brows furrowed as she controlled her mind not to turn around and pretend they weren't there but she was betrayed by her body. Curious as to what they were talking about, she turned around but immediately regretted. The girl had her arms around Yuyan's waist as her lips crashed against hers. A huge pit of flames ignited in her heart as her jaws clenched.
Grunting angrily, Yuyan grunted, "I don't want to hurt you so please get off me before I shove you off-" Before she could finish the sentence, the girl was already whining in pain as someone grabbed her by the hair.
"I might have to ask you to keep your hands off her." There was Jiaqi with a monotonous voice as she glared at the girl. "Who are you to tell me wha-" Rolling her eyes in pure jealousy and annoyance, Jiaqi cut her off.
"I'm her actual lover." She emphasised 'actual' as she stared dead straight into the girl's eyes. If looks could kill, she would have been buried 6 feet under ground right then.
The brunette's eyes widened as she glanced between Jiaqi and Yuyan before questioning the taller, "Is that true?" However she got no response as Yuyan was busy staring at Jiaqi with widened eyes and jaws. Shock and disbelief written all over her face. Not being able to handle the silence from the two, the brunette threw a tantrum and stormed off.
Acting as if nothing had just happened, Jiaqi held onto her the strap of her bag and glanced at Yuyan, "Let's go?" Her tone was cold and still laced with jealousy.
A wide and cheeky grin crept up her face as the taller nodded her head and slid her arms around Jiaqi's waist in satisfaction.
"Let's go."
