The next day was crazy; it was Lily's first day of school. She was so nervous and her slim fingers fiddled with the sleeves of her jacket as she shuffled through the school hallways. Everywhere she looked she saw unfamiliar faces, but luckily none of their eyes were on her.

All she could think about was Luke, and everywhere she saw a blonde quiff she instantly pictured him.

She got her timetable from the school office and hurried to registration (a/n for American's I think that might be homeroom). Quickly taking a place beside a tall blonde girl, Lily glanced around at all the people there. She met the blonde's kind and excited gaze and flinched back. Why did this girl remind her so much of Luke?

"Hi! I'm Lucy." She giggled and held out her hand.

Lily politely took it and shook it - who even shakes hand anymore? - smiling kindly back into the bright blue eyes of the girl in front of her.

"Are you new? Gosh, I'm so stupid, of course you're new. What kind of a question is that? Well, anyway, I hope you're liking it here. You're so pretty by the way - oh, um... I didn't mean to be so blunt, but you are - ah I'm so sorry I must be very overwhelming..." Lucy blushed, finishing her rambling and looking down at her hands which were fidgeting in her lap.

Lily giggled and shook her head. "Oh no, Lucy, you're alright."

Lucy lifted her eyes and smiled. Her smile illuminated the whole room. When she smiled, her blue eyes lit up in a brilliance you only saw in the most breathtaking artwork. "Oh good, I don't mean to be overwhelming on your first day of school."

Lily chuckled, "honestly, you're being lovely. You're actually the first person I've spoken to today." She smiled in an attempt to back up her words.

"Really, but you're so-" Lily's phone ringing cut off Lucy's words, and she took her phone out and saw it was Luke.

Biting her lip, Lily excused herself and hurried out of the room towards the toilets, leaving her bag with Lucy.

Lily leant against the wall in the corner of the toilets - which were in surprisingly good condition - and accepted the call.

"What's up, Luke?" She asked quietly, worried that if someone came into the toilet they would eavesdrop of her conversation.

"I... I can't do this." She heard his muffled voice. She noticed the way it was cracking on every word. He was close to crying.

"What is it? What's happened?" Her voice rose slightly, and a girl coming out of one of the cubicles sent her an annoyed glare. She shot a nonchalant look back and focused on the conversation.

"I called Cal earlier." Luke muttered. That was all he could say before bursting into tears.

Lily's heart twisted at the sounds of his sobs, and she immediately tried to comfort him, saying words that made absolutely no sense, but when put together had a soothing effect.

"Lily, Lily I'll be alright. Can we just talk?" He murmured, sniffing.

"I can't. I have to go back to school." She admitted apologetically.

He didn't reply.

"Luke, I have to go. I'll talk to you as soon as possible, okay?" She heard the bell go off and cursed. The first lesson was about to start.

"Yeah, okay." Luke muttered, and then hung up.

Lily stared at her phone in confusion. Then she sighed, pushed herself off the wall and left the toilets, running to find Lucy and her bag.
