My phone feels heavy in my hand and the light is too bright for my dilated eyes. I try slipping my fingers across the phone's glass to lower the light. "Fuuuuuuuuck.. thhis stuuupid light." I bend my head back flopping my arms by my sides because they're too weak to be held up. I see the sky pitch black, spinning and spinning and spinning until I fall over. I giggle hysterically at the dirt, one of my closest friends.

The other girls that call me a "friend" left me in the park, while they ran off to fuck their boyfriends. A typical Friday night, to get high and wasted just to experience "life" they always tell me. But I draw the line at given my virginity to some dumb fuck who can't speak full sentences without Siri.

I roll to my side and bend my knees to my chest. This feels nice. Suddenly the ground vibrates under me and I press my hands against the wet dirt and see the light from my phone shine onto my face. I squint. Austin. "Auuuustin." I slowly pick up the phone and struggle to bend the tendons in my fingers to grip the phone. I see the green button and press it. I struggle to hold the phone to my ear to speak to my brother.

"Remi-Remi!?" He yells through the phone into my ear and my brain pulses. Fuck. I press my other hand to my forehead.

"You don'ttttt have to yell!" I close my eyes to focus on his voice. "Wh-where aare you?"

"I'm in the parking lot where YOU said YOU'D be." He exhales heavily over the phone. "If you're not here in two minutes, I'm calling dad." His warning is stern and serious. If I don't move now, I know he will call dad.

"Don't-doo not.. call him." I clear my throat and try to sound sober. "I'm-I am coming."

I hang up the phone and adjust my eyes to the darkness. I look to my left and right, nothing. I look behind me and I see bright lights a few yards out. Austin.

I sit back on my knees and press both hands off the ground to help myself up. I walk as fast as my legs can let me towards the car. My feet drag as if I have a ball and chain being pulled behind me. What feels like hours and I finally make it to the car. I press my weight against the car and heave the door open. My body slumps into the car and the door quickly shuts from its weight. I slowly turn my heavy head to his green eyes, lit in the dark shadows of the car.

"How drunk are you?"

"Great, juudgement. What-elssses knew." I narrow my eyes at him as if he's the golden child my parents expect him to be. Full ride to play soccer at Fredonia and here I am the problem child always getting into trouble. I press my head back against the car seat and try to ignore him. I feel the car shift into drive and accelerate forward back home.

"Seriously Remi, I'm leaving for college in a few months, I'm not going to be here to save you." I roll my eyes behind my closed eye lids.

"Iii can't waait to be alone." I keep my eyes shut.

"Remi I'm being serious! You-" A crash and shatter vibrates through my eardrums. I'm whipped to my side and a heavy impact hits my head. Everything goes silent.
