Chapter Nine

                                                                              ***Lucas POV 3rd***

Lucas sat working on some paper and was currently thinking about updating the town to more modern days. Like changing the dirt road into actual roads and maybe building an actual park as well as expanding the housing. The pack is populating after all and hopefully not getting any smaller. Lucas rubs his eyes not able to focus worried about Valerie. They heard from her since that night and he was missing her so much. He could feel their bond getting weaker and weaker every day and he is getting worried.

He reached over to his drawer opening to see a black notebook sitting at the very top.  A notebook that Jasmine had given him when she went into her coma. He picked it up feeling the surface of the book before slowly opening it to see Valerie's sketch of Leam. So perfectly drawn that it could be a photo. Suddenly Mike opened the door and Lucas quickly places it back in the draw and shuts it. Lucas held up a pen up over the papers before him and looked up to see Mike.

"Hey." Mike trailed off questioningly as Lucas gave him a fake smile to cover his exhaustion. Leam was currently taking his turn of spending time with the kids since it was evening and Lucas has morning with them when they have work that has to be done. Today is one of those days. 

"Hey, Mike. So I was thinking about the renovations. I think the houses should be bigger as well as maybe cobblestone roads instead of concrete?" Lucas said and looked up at Mike.

"Lucas..." Mike says and comes to where I was sitting and leaned against the desk.

"Yes?" Lucas said looking up and Mike who had his eyes focused on him. 

"It is okay to miss her. We all miss her." Mike said placing a reassuring hand on his shoulder. Lucas had been keeping himself from breaking down but feeling his friend's hand on him and hearing his caring voice he began to tear up.

"I dunno what to do Michael. I have a pack to take care of with my brother and I have children I need to be strong for. I can feel the bond-breaking more every day and my heart is breaking right along with it! All I can do is bury myself in work and spend time with the kids to keep my mind off it but it is so hard! My heart is breaking and I can't help but think she is somewhere out there with Asher who wants to steal her from us and for all I know he is making her think that they are finding the sire bond but really all he is trying to do is break our mate bond." Lucas cried to his friend. 

"That's not true I promise that Lucas." Lucas and Mike's head looks towards the door and Alex stood there and shut the door. "A lot of things change about Asher but there is one thing Asher has never changed. He always keeps his end of his deal and kept his promise. I also think him spending time with Valerie is making the guy we used to be our best friend is coming back." Alex said looking down at his hands. "Despite Valerie not feeling the way he does about her she is a kind person and I think she can bring back my brother that I loved. That we all loved." Lucas looked at him not sure what to say. But the thought about who Asher used to be. He had flashes of Asher smiling, them swimming in the lake and splashing each other. The good memories but then remembered the bad. 

"Yeah, I would love to have our best friend back," Lucas said. Alex nodded as he gave Lucas smile and turned to leave. "Alex wait! do you really think it's possible?" Alex turned back to him.

"Yeah. I do. I'm heading back home for a bit. I'll back in about a week." Alex left as quickly as he appeared.

Lucas smiles as he takes Lucy's hand walking her to the bed and lifted the cover for her to crawl into her bed. She settled down in her bed with her stuffed bunny as Lucas tucked her in and gave her a kiss on the forehead. 

"Good night Papa and Dad!" Lucy said as she sunk down into her pillow holding her bunny up under her nose. 

"We love you too," Lucas said before checking on Leam and Julian. Julian and Leam were talking quietly before Leam got up. 

"Alright well, good night bud. Love you."

"Good night Papa. Night dad." He says looking at Lucas with his dark brown eyes.

"Night sleep well," Lucas said as he turned on Lucy's lava lamp. They leave and the room and close the door quietly. 

Leam and Lucas go into the office and began to work on whatever they could trying to avoid the empty void they know everyone is feeling with the Luna gone. Suddenly Leam just begins to cry not being able to hold up his facade he has put up for everyone. He wiped the tears away that slid down his face quietly but Lucas noticed. He slid his chair back and went over to him with tears forming in his eyes. HE hugged his brother as they had thoughts flashing through their minds. 

"It's okay. I miss her too. I'm stressed too. Lean on me Leam." Lucas says to his brother as he holds his brother's shoulder.

"I just want her to come back. Everything is stressful. Trying to take care of the pack, we gonna have to start doing training soon, we plan to reconstruct and the pain I see in the kid's eyes when we talk about her. They want her home too and I don't know what to do because we have to put up a facade for the kids and the pack like we know what's going on but we don't! I just don't know what to do so I drowned myself in work and responsibilities." 

"I know. I know." Lucas said not knowing what else to say. "But in the meantime, we have to be there for the kids. I forgot training was going to start soon." Lucas said as he let his brother go and wiped his face. 

"Yeah look at what month it is." He said pointing at the calendar that hangs on the wooden wall. "It starts next month."
"Argh! What are we supposed to do!? We barely spend enough time with the kids! Trining is gonna take up most of our time! Khloe is already here watching them but at least we spend half of the day with them! It rare we even get to spend time with them." Lucas says frustrated throwing his head back and rubbing his face. "I need to get out now." Lucas storms out of the room and down the stairs. Khloe was startled as she was cleaning the kitchen and seeing the way Lucas was.

"Lucas are you-" She tries to ask and place her hand on his forearm and he quickly pushed it off as he headed out the doors and immediately shifts. Leam and Khloe looked at each other in shock because Lucas has never been this mad to the point he would shove Klhoe's comforting hand off him.

"Watch the kids," Leam said as he ran after his brother into the woods shifting. Lucas was just so confused, stressed, scared, and worried that his vision blurred and his is mind was fuzzy. He stopped and collapsed on the floor before crying out in such agony that it hurt Leam's heart to hear his brother so broken. Eventually, Lucas shifted back into human form and continued to scream and cry out in the dark night. Leam ran to his brother sliding on his knees next to him and grabbed his brother's shoulder.

"I know." Leam cried as he held his older brother. He had never seen his brother this broken and upset. After running everything out of Lucas and Leam's system they headed back home. As they walked past the kid's room and they could hear someone talking. 

"Leam. Come here!" Lucas said leaning into the door with his ear pressed ut against it. Leam came over and Lucas slowly opened the door. Julian was on Lucy's bed holding a book. He is reading a book in a loving tone to Lucy who looks like she has been crying. She huddles down curling into her brother's side and closed her eyes. 

Lucas quietly closes the door with a faint smile on his face as he heads for the office again.
