Tenzin continued to lead the three of them into the trees, the ground became more dirt than sand as they ventured into a part of the island that they had never been before. They continued until Tenzin brought them to the mouth of a large groove in the cliff wall. It was big enough to hide under for shelter but not enough to be a cave.
Tenzin crouched down and picked up one of the clam shells to show them, giving one of them to Sukara as she held out her hand.
She held it up to get a better look at it. Sukara brushed her fingers over the grooves and marks on the shell. She frowned at some of the unusual ones.
"What do you think of that?" Sukara asked, showing Korra the shell.
"Hmm," Korra hummed as she inspected the shell herself, "odd."
There were sharp and clean cuts in the edge of the shell, with small breaks next to them.
"What's wrong?" Kuvira asked, frowning at the two avatars.
"Look at the cuts," Sukara explained, picking up another shell to show her, "if it were an animal, you'd expect to see dents or rough grooves but these are thin, and sharp. More like a knife than a claw."
"So does that mean..." Kuvira started, but she trailed off as she began to look uncomfortable as she realised the possibility of there being a person watching them.
"When was the last time you saw a lemur use a knife?" Sukara asked, an intrigued smirk on her face as she became more excited by the investigation.
"About 25 years ago," Tenzin said, having taken a moment to think about it, gaining very confused and questioning looks from the women, "my father had very talented pets."
This got him slow nods as they tried to imagine a lemur holding and using a knife.
"Well, we can still hope that it's a lemur then," Korra chuckled nervously as the wind russled the leaves in the trees.
"Wouldn't it be awful if it was one of our long lost enemies," Sukara joked, getting the exact worried frown she wanted from Korra, "like... Who's still alive? You, I suppose. Kuvira have you been sneaking over here to eat clams?"
"You're not funny," Kuvira told her, trying desperately not to give her the satisfaction of a laugh, "it's not the time, we should go back."
"What?" Sukara chuckled, "and miss our reunion with zombie Amon? That would be terrible."
"Hey Kara," Korra smiled sarcastically as she gave her a nod to get her attention, "shut the fuck up. We're going back now."
While Sukara laughed, four rocks came hurtling through the trees, slamming squarely into the back of their heads. Knocking them all unconscious.
"I think you'll find Avatar," Guan hissed as he waltzed out from behind the trees, a deep glare on his face, "you're not going anywhere."
