"but ill build a house out of the mess and all the broken pieces."

i woke up the next morning, my head on ashtons chest, the sun peaking in through his curtains.

i looked up to see his eyes were still closed. he was still fast asleep.

i rested my chin on his chest, watching how peaceful he looked when he was asleep.

it was like his mind was free of the usual things that cursed his life.

so i decided to leave him sleep.

i very slowly moved off his bed, trying not to wake him as his arms continued to try to pull me closer. once i was standing, my stomach started growling. i decided to go try to find something to eat downstairs.

i slowly walked over to his door, opening it and stepping out, leaving it slightly open so he knew where i went.

i started down the stairs, when i heard a voice in the kitchen, "clairo!"

"hi anne," i whispered back to her as i began to walk towards her.

"wheres ashton?" she asked. she was making pancakes i believe.

"hes still asleep," i told her sitting down on a stool near where she was cooking. "i figured he probably needed it."

"is that his shirt?" she smiled at me.

i looked down, realizing i was still only in his zeppelin shirt, and no shorts. i bit my lip as my anxiety grew.

anne laughed lightly at my embarrassment, "its okay clairo, i was a teenager too."

"its not what you think, i just didnt have any other clothes," i tried to explain.

"clairo, i trust you guys," she whispered to me. "anyways, he told you about why he was always so tired, right?" she asked quietly, hoping i did.

"yeah," i nodded. "he told me about the nightmares."

"they stopped since you came around, you know that?" she told me proudly. "i used to hear him up when i got up for work in the morning because he wouldnt sleep but ever since he met you, he doesnt have them anymore. and he sleeps the whole night through."

i smiled, nodding my head. "he said something about it once."

"youve really helped him clairo," she looked at me. "i owe you more than you understand."

"what do you mean?" i asked confused.

"did he ever show you them?" she asked quietly.

"he showed me his scars if thats what you mean. and told me about what happened," i told her.

"hes been so much happier since you came around. i havent been scared anymore about him doing anything because he has you now," she explained to me. "and i owe that peace of mind to you."

"i owe a lot to him too," i told her quietly.

"just thank you for being there for h-" she started to say before she got cut off.

"clairo?" i heard ashton call from upstairs.

"im down here, yellow," i called back, turning around to see him at the top of the stairs. i watched the relief flood over his face as he saw me.
