CHAPTER 18 REVIEW!!

"You have. One. New. Voicemail. And. Twelve. Saved. Messages. New. Message." the voice mail's annoying robotic voice filled my ears.

"Hi, sweetie." Xavier's Mom said, her voice sounded sad, like she'd been crying. "I, Uh. Honey, it's Xavier." her voice cracked. "He," she sobbed, " He was in an accident." her voice cracked again.

"They think he might be dea-" was all she was able to get out before the line died.

CHAPTER 19

Hayden's POV

The sounds of the heart monitors and various cleaning supplies filled my head as Mom and I walked down the Intensive Care Unit in Roseburrow Hospital.

I walked in a daze with Mom holding my hand and wiping my tears as we made it to Xavier's room.

My tears blurred my vision as someone engulfed me in a hug.

"Oh Hayden," the person cried.

I wiped my tears and looked at the person holding me.

Xavier's Mom now held my hand and wept on my shoulder. She was a mess, her make-up smeared and her eyes red and puffy from crying. But she didn't care. And neither did I, or anyone else.

All I cared about right now, was seeing the father of my baby. Pushing away from Renee, I walked over to the door.

"Sweetie, don't go in." Renee whispered. "You won't want to see him."

"Yes. I do." I pushed open the door and walked in.

The white walls felt as though they were closing in on me as I saw my boyfriend lying on the bed.

He looked lifeless, as though he was dead.

I stopped dead in my tracks, frozen as I stared at him.

His heart monitor was beeping slowly, which was obviously not normal.

His perfect face was scraped and a huge patch covered one side of his face. A cut over his eyebrow was stitched shut and a large bruise spread from his forehead to his eye.

An oxygen mask covered his nose and mouth and I heard his shallow breathing.

Finally gathering the courage to walk over to him, I took a few steps closer until I was looking down over him.

His body was completely still. I reached out and touched his one un-casted hand.

He looked blue and his hand was freezing. Ignoring the cold, I held his hand, trying to warm it up.

"He won't be waking up for a while miss." a nurse said, putting her hand on my shoulder. "He's in a coma sweetie. The truck hit his car so hard that his car flipped a few times. He was knocked out when they got to the scene and he wouldn't wake up."

"They though he was a lost cause, but he opened one of his eyes and said, 'Hane.' At least that's what we thought he said."

"What do you think he could have been trying to say dear?" the nurse suddenly asked.

"Hayden." I whispered.

"Hayden? Who's that dear?" the nurse asked in her grandmotherly voice.

I turned around and looked at her. Her gray hair and kind eyes reminded me of my late grandmother.

"I'm Hayden." I said simply. "I'm his girlfriend, and the mother of his baby." I said without thinking.

"Oh goodness! You're expecting?" she asked, surprise and concern in her voice. "Here, sit sit dear! You shouldn't just be standing here!" she exclaimed.

She paused. "Would you like to sleep next to him?"

I nodded and she pulled the bed over next to Xavier.

"Here you go dear. I'll turn the lights down." she went over and dimmed the lights.

I laid there, holding Xavier's hand for hours.

It was daybreak until I was finally able to fall asleep and I drifted into a dreamland with Xavier.

**********

I awoke to nurses hovering over me and the loud beeping of Xavier's heart monitor.

Groggily, I tried to focus on Xavier when I sat up.

However, I was pulled off the bed and out of the room by one of the nearby nurses.

"We're going to need you to leave." she said rudely, pushing me out the door and slamming it behind me.

Looking around me, I noticed Renee slumped down on the floor asleep.

Trying not to awake her, I silently took a seat next to her, to no avail.

She stirred and turned her head over to look at me.

"Hi sweetie. Did you sleep wel-" she was cut off as a Doctor walked over to us and interrupted her mid sentence.

"Mrs. Williams." he said snootily. "Your son woke up."

I watched her eyes bulge out and she looked as though she wanted to say something, but the doctor cut her off again.

"We had to put him into a drug induced coma however."

Renee gasped and I reached over and grabbed her hand, giving it a squeeze.

"We're truly sorry, but he was in so much pain, that he needed to me out." he said as though he were reading it off a script. "We're not sure how long he will need to be out. It could be a few weeks. I'm sure you understand. You wouldn't want your son in pain, would you?"

She shook her head vigorously and she silently cried, clinging to my hand as though it was her only hope.

The heartless doctor left us and Renee turned to me.

"Are you alright honey?" she asked, ever so selflessly.

I nodded my head, stunned. Xavier was in a coma. He was alive.

But he could easily die, my stupid brain brought up.

He wouldn't do that to me and the baby, I thought stubbornly.
