Me and Anthony were getting everything set up for a movie night.
I was getting snacks ready and called my daughter down, but she never ran down the stairs.
I called for her again, and no surprise, she didn't come down.
"Ant, call our daughter down please."
"I thought she was already down here. I thought she was in the kitchen with you."
"You know she won't listen to me, you're the favorite."
"Don't be a dummy. She doesn't have a favorite."
"Call her. Then she'll come running down the stairs."
"Alright. 'Jess. Come on, the movie's gonna get ready to start.'" Anthony yelled.
Shocker, she came running down the stairs like nothing. She ran to Ant and he immediately picked her and placed her in his hip. Even if she's only 3, she's already a daddy's girl.
"Why didn't you come down stairs when Mommy called you?"
"I didn't heaw her yewwing fo me."
"Okay. Go get on the couch. Me and mom will be in there in a minute."
"Okay daddy."
Anthony set Jessica down and she ran into the living room. I turned to face Ant who was looking at me with a little bit of guilt.
"I told you Anthony, you're the favorite."
"Jen, maybe she really didn't hear you."
"Open your eyes Anthony. I yell way louder than you do. She came running down the stairs as soon as her name fell from your mouth. She favors you. Get that through your head."
"Babe, I'm not trying to make you feel bad."
"Then stop talking about it."
I walked into the living room and set all of the snacks I made on the coffee table. Anthony sat down and Jess moved from my end of the couch to where Ant was and sat on his lap.
He looked over at me and gave me a look a sympathy that I really didn't want.
Throughout the movie, I would be on my phone, or not paying attention at all. Normally the attention Jessica gives her dad doesn't bother me, but for some reason, it's been bothering me a lot more lately.
So when the movie ended, Anthony was passed out and Jessica was still sitting on his lap. I got up and cleaned the snacks and put on a different movie.
Halfway through Jess came and tugged at the bottom of my shirt. I looked down and she sent me a toothy grin. I smiled as stood in my legs and gave me a hug. Once she pulled away, she sat down still facing me.
"What was that for baby?"
"Because you was sad."
"I'm not sad."
"You wooked sad, so I give hug."
"Thank you Sweat-pea."
"You wewcome."
I smiled down at my daughter, she's so kind and thoughtful. She got it from Anthony, just like everything else. She got his eyes, his long eyelashes, and his lips. The only things she got from me are her nose, her ears, and my dirty blonde hair.
"You're so pretty. You look just like your daddy."
"Reawwy? Because Daddy says I wook wike you."
"Not really. You got more of daddy."
"But I wike you mo."
"You like me more than daddy?"
"Yes, siwwy."
"Why baby?"
"Because you aways take cawe of me and Daddy. You awe reawwy pretty and nice. And because you give the best hugs."
"Then why do you only come downstairs and listen to Daddy?"
"I reawwy didn't heaw you yewwing mommy. I just heawed Daddy so I run down staiws so you no get mad."
"Okay baby. It's getting late so let's go put you to bed."
Jessica just smiled and nodded. I picked her up and walked her up the stairs into her room. I set her down in her bed and kissed her forehead goodnight.
I walked back downstairs and seen Anthony still asleep so I grabbed a blanket and cuddled up into his side. He wrapped an arm around me and brought me closer to him.
"I'm sorry about flipping out earlier."
"That's okay babe. I'm not worried about it. But if it makes you feel any better, I think the next little one will like you more than me."
"So you know?"
"I've known for a while. I mean it isn't like you to turn down a drink."
"I was gonna tell you, I just didn't know how."
"I'm not worried about it. Let's just go to sleep. You need to get enough rest. I mean you're sleeping for two."
"Okay babe. Goodnight."
"Goodnight babe."
"I love you."
"I love you too."
I felt my eyes become heavy and myself falling asleep.
