"Help!" A man with caramel skin and ruffled black hair called out as he and Lauren carried Luke's limp body from the unprotected abandoned human lodge to their camp all morning long. "Help us please! We have an injured with us!"
They shouted and pleaded for help as they knew their camp was near as the smell of meat and blood became too strong to go unnoticed.
For hundred of miles laid a growing village of outcast filled with wolves and humans alike. While it may seem odd to some, this was nothing short of their normal lives. Surrounding their massive base of operation stood a tall wall built from the trunks of nearby trees.
"It's Alex and Lauren! They're back!" The duo heard a man call out from behind their walls. "Open the doors!"
And on cue two wolves on opposite sides of the man calling orders spun wooden dials that cranked in chains allowing their doors to open widely.
"Is that Luke?!" Their heard gasping as they entered their small village where their hunters and guards stood in shock.
Amongst the crowds growing sobs and cries for their late commander, a pack of six wolves all came running their way.
Bowing their heads down before those returning, they offered a tarp for the grey man in their arms. But as Alex released his hold on Luke's cold body so he may lay the man on top of the offered tarp, Lauren stopped him. "It's alright thank you. I need to be the one to do this." She said holding back all her frustration. Through perseverance she kept her brother's body against her own as she trailed with him to their infirmary.
Alex tried to grab ahold of the man once again, but Lauren was determined to finish this job alone. As she trailed through their village for everyone to see, she kept a strong face on full display.
There was no way that she was going to be doing this unspeakable task alone and show signs of weakness. She kept her chin held high as the small hut of her desire came to view.
As she got near a woman in white garments exited in a rush. "Lauren!" She shouted with concern. Assisting the woman in her final stretch, together they laid the cold man on a flat tarp inside the hut.
Meanwhile, Alex stood guard outside to prevent any disturbances.
"Is he-"
"Dead." Lauren hung her head as she tearfully admitted their doctors suspicion. "Yes, he is."
"I'm so sorry Lauren. How did this happen?" Alone in the room as the women sat opposite to one another with the man laying between them, the kind hearted doctors voice brought all the woman's sadness to the surface yet again.
Trying to hold back her tears, the woman wept out. "Fangers." And by the look on the doctors face she seemed as if she had been struck by lightning for she didn't move nor speak.
Collecting herself as she shook her head repeatedly the woman looked to the other more closely. "Did you just say what I think you did?"
When Lauren nodded the woman nearly fell from her seat. "There hasn't been a Fanger sighting for centuries though! Not after-"
"-not after the law was set in place. I know. I didn't want to believe it either but Alex found these markings on Luke's neck. He thinks they belong to the dead meat that killed him."
"I'll have a look." Grabbing a nearby tool to closer inspect the target of interest, the doctor carefully examined the area. But after their long journey back to camp the wound on Luke's neck was no longer easy to fully inspect. "It's hard to say right now. By the looks of things, it could've been a few contributing factors that lead to his...um...passing." The doctor treaded lightly on her words around the woman in power sitting in front of her.
