With the moon still high in the sky, the pack of wolves hurled through the city. Using the shadows to their advantages, they rushed the trio of still shaken up human friends and Alex out of the city limits.
Back at the park near their escape route, the three wolves that were capable of running, found no way to get past all of the humans that were casually conversing amongst themselves still.
The open fields that lead into the trees would surely give them away.
But at this point they had nothing left to lose.
"Let's go." One of the men growled as he lead the others through the park.
And in an instant there were loud sounds of people screaming and yelling with fear and fright as they ran away from the pack.
Meanwhile, the werewolves all hurried into the safety of the trees without a single look back. When they were finally deep enough into the woods, where nobody could find them, the wolves paused to catch their breathes.
While Alia and Rose rode together on a wolf, and Zander on another the three friends were still shaking to the touch. But Alex, he had begun to wince in pain by the time they all stopped.
Their break made the man's pain worst as all of the adrenaline he gained from being saved suddenly disappeared. "Don't just stop! Ge-Ah! Get back to camp!"
Alex ordered as his voice was frail and soft just barely coming out.
But his men were beyond exhausted.
They had just run all the way across the city. And after each of their fights, while they may not have gotten out as badly as Alex did, they still felt the repercussions of their own battles.
Everyone put up a good fight. But their bodies were finally catching up with them. Their sore muscles and tired limbs made it hard to keep going.
As the wolves continued panting while Alex's soft demands to keep moving on lingered, the three humans all looked to one another with confused and nervous expressions.
Rose turned around in her seat as she clung onto Alia tightly whispering into her ear, "what do we do now?"
Alia could hear her girlfriend say in a panic.
Her eyes glanced over to Zander, and while he didn't say anything in fear of the wolf beneath him hearing, she could see him wondering the same thing.
Not only had they gone out to do the werewolves bidding, but they had also been caught, imprisoned, and failed to get their hands on anything that belonged to Faye.
All of which Alia knew would disappoint the woman waiting for them back at camp.
She didn't know how to respond to her friends scared pleads for assurance.
They all knew Kaila's life depended on this trip, and with everything ending with a complete fail, she didn't know what kind of treat they were in for back at the village.
"I..." she slowly started to mumbled something but soon the friends felt the wolves beneath them starting to move again.
Their break was finally over.
And while they were still huffing and groaning with pain, they were tired of listening to Alex waste his breathe on ordering them around.
They just wanted this night to end even though it meant having to deal with Nina's fury sooner.
So as they slowly began to make their way back up the mountain, Alia kept glancing between Zander and Rose. She did her best to keep an optimistic smile on her face to try and ease their minds, but even they could see through her tricks.
